Marion and I enjoyed a nice Luncheon yesterday over at the Elks Club for Pierce Transit Retirees. The food and fellowship was good and we came home with two pointsetas and a gift certificate for dinner at the Olive Garden. Not bad.

Those Grand Old Burma Shave Road Signs

For those who never saw any of the Burma Shave signs, here is a quick lesson in our history of the 1930s, '40's and 50's.

Before there were interstates, when everyone drove the old 2 lane roads, Burma Shave signs would be posted all over the countryside in farmers' fields. They were small red signs with white letters. AJ went to the doctor again today. Some of you have been praying for him about the "brain malformation" that I mentioned in the TLBC 3rd Q Report.

Some of us have noticed that there are times when AJ seems to space out like he is daydreaming and it is hard to get his attention. It turns out that these incidents are small seizures. It is not epilepsy. It is related to the malformation in his brain. Again, this is a thing that is fixable by surgery. The problem is that this type of surgery is done while the patient is awake and the doctor can do the procedures needed based upon the reaction he gets from the patient. AJ is too young at this point for the doctor to be able to understand clearly from the information he gets from the patient during the surgery just exactly what is needed to do the procedure precisely as needed.

So for now they are giving us a DVD with instructions on how to care for AJ in seizure type scenarios. They will also be fitting him with some headgear that will prevent any trauma to the head in case of falling or an accident of some kind. In time they will go ahead and do the surgery that is needed but not for now. Thanks again for thinking of us and this dear little one in your prayers.

A Can of Worms

A minister decided that a visual demonstration
would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon.

Four worms were placed into four separate jars.



The first worm was put
into a container of alcohol.
The second worm was put
into a container of cigarette smoke.
The third worm was put into
a container of chocolate syrup.
The fourth worm was put into
a container of good clean soil.


At the conclusion of the sermon,
the Minister reported the following results:




The first worm in alcohol -
Dead.

The second worm in cigarette smoke -
Dead .

Third worm in chocolate syrup -
Dead .

Fourth worm in good clean soil -
Alive.

So the Minister asked the congregation -
What can you learn from this demonstration?

Maxine was setting in the back,
quickly raised her hand and said,



"As long as you drink,
smoke and eat chocolate,
you won't have worms!"

It was good to have all the family over on Thanksgiving. The next day (Friday) we went to my sister's 60th birthday party. That was fun too. Today our attendance was really DOWN in church but it was good to be there and to simply worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth. Golden Rule

Thanks for stopping by for a peek at my Blog today.

It was good to see one of my daughters in church today with the children.
I preached this morning on "The Golden Rule." Read the outline for the sermon on our church web site HERE .

Make sure you vote this week. Marion and I already sent in our ballots by mail. Sometimes it is hard to know what to do with some of the choices they give you now a days on the ballots. Personally, I am for the old fashion standards of the right to LIFE, one man and one woman in marriage, Social Security for US Citizens only and make all Congressmen and Senators be in the program rather than giving them full pay for retirement instead of SS, (maybe then they'd be more concerned about keeping it straight for those who paid into it all their life) cut taxes, balance the budget, be less dependent on foreign products like oil, punish evil doers justly, freedom to practice biblical standards of morality even in school or on government property, etc, etc. etc. Pardon me for being a little opinionated today but I figure I better take advantage of the freedom to speak out like this while we still have that freedom. And, you didn't have to press ONE to continue in English. For those who come into this country and will not learn English, well as far as I am concerned, They can press ONE and go back where they came from. That is what I would do if I were them. Just trying to practice the Golden Rule here,- hee, hee, hee.

Marion and I had a good trip over the mountains yesterday to visit with sister Deuchle in Yakima. Looking forward to prayer meeting tonight at TLBC. My pastor when I was a Bible Student at CBC in the mid 70's, Elder Elton Wilson, is in the hospital in Clarksville, TN and not expected to live according to the doctors.

Greetings from TLBC in Tacoma, Washington. This is our Newsletter and Quarterly Report for the 3rd quarter of 2006. We continue to study the Sermon on the Mount on Sunday mornings and Pastor’s outlines are on the front page of our church web site. In our afternoon services we are studying about various Old Testament Bible characters.

Pastor traveled to Troy, Michigan in September for the Bible Conference at Covenant Baptist Church and had a wonderful time of fellowship with the brethren there. Shortly after the conference the pastor there, Elder Bill Senich, had some serious health issues and we are praying for him. Our Missionary to Ireland, Elder Bob Ellis, preached in the Labor Day Bible Conference in North Carolina where brother Gene Kiger ministers to the Grace Baptist Church and was very well received by the brethren there.

Sister Marion had some health problems this quarter but is doing better now. Thank you to those of you who prayed for her. Please pray for our grandson AJ Buffaloe. They are scheduling an appointment with a neurologist regarding a swollen tonsil in the back of his brain. It is called Arnold Chiuri Malformation Type I.

Our church attendance is not what it could be. We continue our mailing ministry to newcomers in the community with no response to this effort. We started to canvas the neighborhood around the new meeting place. We ordered and received several different gospel tracts from Elder Wilbert Ellis in Florence, Kentucky and are using them.

Pastor is enjoying being retired from his secular job. It is great to be able to have the flexibility now that we did not have when required to meet an employers schedule. For example, our 5th Sunday trips over to Yakima can now be done on a weekday if it is more convenient. Sister Marion enjoys my help on routine shopping trips and we like to take off now and then just to go to the ocean or the mountains for a day trip. Nice! I started to gain some weight so we are walking about two miles per day now for exercise.

Brother Cresencio Baldemor in the Philippines is also doing well and we continue to receive good reports from him about the mission work there. It is an honor to be co-laborers with great men of God like Elder Baldemor and Elder Ellis.

We received a generous love offering from a Friend in Kentucky. This dear brother has been a faithful help to us over the years and has been used of the Lord in our life and ministry more than he may know. Pray also for Direct missions in Canada, Mexico, Honduras, Guyana, Brazil, Peru, Romania, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, India and Australia. AMEN.

The Divine Challenge

The trip to Carmichael California went well also and I had liberty when I preached at the Bible Conference there last Thursday. Here is my sermon outline for the message at the conference.



The Divine Challenge
Jer. 6:16 (Pray)

We live in a day when it is easy to be discouraged. But most of us have to admit that God has been very gracious to us. The old prophet Jeremiah lived in very trying days too. Our text was a great challenge in that day and I believe we should take it to heart in our day also. Let us think today about the Divine challenge God gives us in this passage.

I. It is God’s Challenge.
1. Thus saith the Lord. 2Tim 3:16.
2. Nothing could be more important than to obey the word of God.

II. The Challenge is to do What?
1. STAND. 2Tim 4:1-8.
2. There is a great need today for church members who will be faithful.
3. Eph 6:11-17.

III. Where are we to do this Divine Challenge?
1. In the ways. What does that mean? Consider 3 examples.
A. The Way of Salvation. Jn 14:1-6. 8:23-27, 3:14-17.
B. The Way of Baptism. Jn 3:22-36.
C. The Way of Service in a true Church. Matt 16:18, Acts 2:47,
Acts 11:19-26,Acts 13:1-4, Acts 14:23-28, Acts 20:17-28.

IV. What are the results of Standing in the Ways?
1. You will SEE.
A. The unsaved cannot see spiritual things. 1Cor 2:14, Jn 3:3.
B. The unbaptised will also not see certain truth. Acts 22:4-18.
C. The unchurched are blind concerning the pillar and ground of
the truth. 1Tim 3:15.

V. How are we to Stand in the Ways?
1. By asking for the old paths. Prov 23:10.
A. The old paths is the good way. 1Kings 8:36.
B. We are to walk therein. Rom 6:4, Rom 8:1-4.
C. Ye shall find rest for your soul. Isa 40:28-31.

Conclusion: Many today are like those in Jeremiah’s day. You can tell them the truth with earnest sincerity and they will turn from it and refuse to walk according to “thus saith the Lord.” By the grace of God we will continue to rejoice around the things of the Lord and refuse to remove the old landmarks. Remember, the Divine Challenge in our text also comes with a Divine Promise of rest for your soul. God cannot lie and He cannot break a promise. AMEN.

Marion and I had a good time on our trip to Leavenworth earlier in the week when we celebrated our 41st Anniversary. It was great but I gained about 13 pounds from the German food I ate on the trip. I'll have to watch my portions more at the conference in California this week.

A MUST read for all Americans

No matter if you are for, or against the war in Iraq. No matter if you are
a liberal or a conservative. No matter if you are a Democrat or a
Republican. No matter if you are an atheist, Christian or a Jew. This is
a MUST read if you love the freedom to be any of the above.

This is the most cogent and powerful essay on the threat of Islamic
terrorism I have seen. It is by Dr. Vernon Chong and is
without a doubt the most articulate and convincing writing I have read
regarding the War in Iraq .

If you have any doubts please open your mind to his essay
and give a fair evaluation. It's also eerily applicable to other current
issues (Iran 's nuclear program, immigration, NAFTA's impact on
Americanjobs, trade deficits, etc.). I had no idea who Dr. Chong is, or
the source of these thoughts... so when I received them, I almost deleted
them - as well-written as they are. But then I did a "Google search" on the
Doctor and found him to be a retired Air Force Surgeon of all things and
past Commander of Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio. So
he is real, is connected to Veterans affairs in California, and these are his
thoughts. They are worth reading and thinking about!

Subject: Muslims, and the USA : A different spin on Iraq war.

This WAR is for REAL!

Dr. Vernon Chong, Major General, USAF, Retired.

To get out of a difficulty, one usually must go through it.

Our country is now facing the most serious threat to its existence, as we
know it, that we have faced in your lifetime and mine (which includes WWII).

The deadly seriousness is greatly compounded by the fact that
there are very few of us who think we can possibly lose this war and even
fewer who realize what losing really means.

First, let's examine a few basics:

1. When did the threat to us start?

Many will say September 11, 2001.

The answer as far as the United States is concerned is 1979,
22 years prior to September 2001, with the following attacks on us:

Iran Embassy Hostages, 1979;

Beirut , Lebanon Embassy 1983;

Beirut , Lebanon Marine Barracks 1983;

Lockerbie , Scotland Pan-Am flight to New York 1988;

First New York World Trade Center attack 1993;

Dhahran , Saudi Arabia Khobar Towers Military complex 1996;

Nairobi , Kenya US Embassy 1998;

Dares Salaam , Tanzania US Embassy 1998;

Aden , Yemen USS Cole 2000;

New York World Trade Center 2001;

Pentagon 2001.

(Note that during the period from 1981 to 2001 there were 7,581 terrorist
attacks worldwide).


2. Why were we attacked?

Envy of our position, our success, and our freedoms.

The attacks happened during the administrations of Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush1, Clinton and Bush 2. We cannot fault either the Republicans or
Democrats as there were no provocations by any of the presidents or their
immediate predecessor, President Ford.

3. Who were the attackers?

In each case, the attacks on the US were carried out by Muslims.

4. What is the Muslim population of the World? 25%.

5. Isn't the Muslim Religion peaceful?

Hopefully, but that is really not material. There is no doubt that the
predominately Christian population of Germany was peaceful, but under the
dictatorial leadership of Hitler (who was also Chris tian), that made no
difference. You either went along with the administration
or you were eliminated. There were 5 to 6 million Christians killed by the
Nazis for political reasons (including 7,000 Polish priests).

Thus, almost the same number of Christians were killed by the Nazis, as the
six million holocaust Jews who were killed by them, and we seldom heard of
anything other than the Jewish atrocities. Although Hitler kept the world
focused on the Jews, he had no hesitancy about killing anyone who got in his
way of exterminating the Jews or of taking over the world - German, Christian or any others.

Same with the Muslim terrorists. They focus the world on the US, but kill
all in the way -- their own people or the Spanish, French or anyone else.
The point here is that just like the peaceful Germans were no protection to
anyone from the Nazis, no matter how many peaceful Muslims there may be, they
are no protection for us from the terrorist Muslim leaders and what they are fanatically bent on doing -- by their own pronouncements -- killing all of us "infidels." I don't blame the peaceful Muslims. What would you do if the choice was shut up or die?

6. So who are we at war with?

There is no way we can honestly respond that it is anyone other than the
Muslim terrorists. Trying to be politically correct and avoid verbalizing
this conclusion can well be fatal. There is no way to win if
you don't clearly recognize and articulate who you are fighting.

So with that background, now to the two major questions:

1. Can we lose this war?

2. What does losing really mean?

If we are to win, we must clearly answer these two pivotal
questions:

We can definitely lose this war, and as anomalous as it may sound, the major
reason we can lose is that so many of us simply do not fathom the answer to
the second question - What does losing mean?

It would appear that a great many of us think that losing the war means
hanging our heads, bringing the troops home and going on about our business,
like post-Vietnam. This is as far from the truth as one can get.

What losing really means is:

We would no longer be the premier country in the world. The attacks will not
subside, but rather will steadily increase.

Remember, they want us dead, not just quiet. If they had just wanted us
quiet, they would not have produced an increasing series of attacks against us,
over the past 18 years. The plan was, clearly, for terrorists to attack us
until we were neutered and submissive to them.

We would, of course, have no future support from other nations, for fear
of reprisals and for the reason that they would see; we are impotent and cannot
help them.

They will pick off the other non-Muslim nations, one at a time. It will be
increasingly easier for them. They already hold Spain hostage. It doesn't
matter whether it was right or wrong for Spain to withdraw its troops from Iraq . Spain did it because the Muslim terrorists bombed their train and told them to withdraw the troops.

Anything else they want Spain to do will be done. Spain is finished.

The next will probably be France. Our one hope on France is that they might
see the light and realize that if we don't win, they are finished too, in
that they can't resist the Muslim terrorists without us.

However, it may already be too late for France . France is already 20%
Muslim and fading fast!

Without our support Great Britan will go too. recently I read that there
are more mosques in England than churches.

If we lose the war, our production, income, exports and way of life will
all vanish as we know it. After losing, who would trade or deal with us
if they were threatened by the Muslims.

If we can't stop the Muslim terrorists, how could anyone else?

The radical Muslims fully know what is riding on this war, and therefore
are completely committed to winning, at any cost. We better know it too
and be likewise committed to winning at any cost.

Why do I go on at such lengths about the results of losing?

Simple. Until we recognize the costs of losing, we cannot unite and really
put 100% of our thoughts and efforts into winning. And it is going to take
that 100% effort to win.

So, how can we lose the war?

Again, the answer is simple.

We can lose the war by "imploding."
That is, defeating ourselves by refusing to recognize the enemy and their
purpose, and really digging in and lending full support to the war effort.
If we are united, there is no way that we can lose. If we continue to be
divided, there is no way that we can win!


Let me give you a few examples of how we simply don't comprehend the life
and death seriousness of this situation.

President Bush selects Norman Mineta as Secretary of Transportation.
Although all of the terrorist attacks were committed by Muslim men between 17 and 40 years of age, Secretary Mineta refuses to allow profiling. Does that sound like we are taking this thing seriously? This is war!

For the duration, we are going to have to give up some of the civil rights
we have become accustomed to. We had better be prepared to lose some of our
civil rights temporarily or we will most certainly lose all of them permanently.


And don't worry that it is a slippery slope. We gave up plenty of civil
rights during WWII, and immediately restored them after the victory and in
fact added many more since then.

Do I blame President Bush or President Clinton before him?

No, I blame us for blithely assuming we can maintain all of our Political
Correctness, and all of our civil rights during this conflict and have a clean, lawful, honorable war. None of those words apply to war.
Get them out of your head.

Some have gone so far in their criticism of the war and/or the
Administration that it almost seems they would literally like to see us
lose.

I think some actually do, I hasten to add that this isn't because they are
disloyal. It is because they just don't recognize what losing means.
Nevertheless, that conduct gives the impression to the enemy that we are divided
and weakening. It concerns our friends, and it does great damage to our cause.

Of more recent vintage, the uproar fueled by the politicians and media
regarding the treatment of some prisoners of war, perhaps exemplifies best what
I am saying. We have recently had an issue, involving the treatment of a few Muslim prisoners of war, by a small group of our military police. These are the type prisoners who just a few months ago were throwing their own people off buildings, cutting off their hands, cutting out their tongues and otherwise murdering their own
people just for disagreeing with Saddam Hussein.

And just a few years ago these same type prisoners chemically killed 400,000
of their own people for the same reason. They are also the same type of enemy fighters, who recently were burning Americans,and dragging their charred corpses through the streets of Iraq . And still more recently, the same type of enemy that was and is providing videos to all news sources internationally, of the beheading of American prisoners they held.

Compare this with some of our press and politicians, who for several days
have thought and talked about nothing else but the "humiliating" of some
Muslim prisoners -- not burning them, not dragging their charred corpses
through the streets, not beheading them, but "humiliating" them.

Can this be for real?

The politicians and pundits have even talked of impeachment of the
Secretary of Defense. If this doesn't show the complete lack of
comprehension and understanding of the seriousness of the enemy we
are fighting, the life and death struggle we are in and the disastrous
results of losing this war, nothing can.

To bring our country to a virtual political standstill over this prisoner
issue makes us look like Nero playing his fiddle as Rome burned -- totally oblivious to what is going on in the real world. Neither we, nor any other country, can survive this internal strife. Again I say, this does not mean that some of our politicians or media people are disloyal. It simply means that they are absolutely oblivious to the magnitude of the situation we are in and into which the Muslim terrorists have been pushing us, for many years.

These people are a serious and dangerous liability to the war effort. We
must take note of who they are and get them out of office.

Remember, the Muslim terrorists stated goal is to kill all infidels! That
translates into ALL non-Muslims -- not just in the United States, but
throughout the world. We are the last bastion of defense.

We have been criticized for many years as being 'arrogant.' That charge is
valid in at least one respect. We are arrogant in that we believe that we
are so good, powerful and smart, that we can win the hearts and minds of all
those who attack us, and that with both hands tied behind our back, we can
defeat anything bad in the world! We can't!

If we don't recognize this, our nation as we know it will not survive, and
no other free country in the world will survive if we are defeated.

And finally, name any Muslim countries throughout the world that allow
freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of religion, freedom of the
press, equal rights for anyone -- let alone everyone, equal status or any status
for women, or that have been productive in one single way that contributes to the good of the world.

This has been a long way of saying that we must be united on this war or we
will be equated in the history books to the self-inflicted fall of the Roman
Empire . If, that is, the Muslim leaders will allow history books to be
written or read.


If we don't win this war right now, keep a close eye on how the Muslims
take over France in the next 5 years or less. They will continue to increase the Muslim population of France and continue to encroach little by little, on the established French traditions. The French will be fighting among themselves, over what should or should not be done, which will continue to weaken them and keep them from any united resolve. Doesn't that sound eerily familiar?

Democracies don't have their freedoms taken away from them by some external
military force. Instead, they give their freedoms away, piece by politically correct piece. And they are giving those freedoms away to those who have shown, worldwide that they abhor freedom and will not apply it to you or even to themselves, once they are in power.

They have universally shown that when they have taken over, they then start
brutally killing each other over who will be the few who control the masses.

What is happening in Iraq is a good example. Will we ever stop hearing
from the politically correct about the "peaceful Muslims"?

I close on a hopeful note, by repeating what I said above. If we are
united, there is no way that we can lose. I hope now, after the election,
the factions in our country will begin to focus on the critical situation we
are in, and will unite to save our country. It is your future we are
talking about! Do whatever you can to preserve it. I reiterate. A
national election is months away.

After reading the above, we all must do this not only for ourselves, but our
children, our grandchildren, our country and the world.
Whether Democrat or Republican, conservative or liberal and that includes the
Politicians and media of our country and the free world!

Please forward this to any you feel may want, or NEED to read it.

Our "leaders" in Congress ought to read it, too. There are those that
find fault with our country, but it is obvious to anyone who truly thinks
through this, that we must UNITE!

Lastly, I wish to add: At the risk of offending someone, I sincerely think
that anyone who rejects this as just another political rant, or doubts the seriousness of this issue or just ignores it without sending it on, is part of the problem. Lets quit laughing at and forwarding the jokes and cartoons which denigrate and ridicule our leaders in this war against terror. They are trying to protect the interests and well being of the US and it's citizens.

Senich has a grapefruit sized aneurysm in the largest artery leading to the heart from the stomach. The doctor's are waiting clearance from his cardiologist to do surgery, and have already cancelled several of this morning's surgeries to make time in the OR. So, it is quite serious. Steadfast Christianity

My trip to Troy, Michigan was good. Had a wonderful time of fellowship with the brethren there. Listed below is the outline of the sermon I started off the Bible Conference with on Tuesday night.

1Cor. 15:56-58. (Pray)

The God of the Bible is a God of Grace and that is a good thing because we are all miserable failures when it comes to meeting the standards of holiness in the Bible. There is a constant need for preaching on steadfast faithfulness to God. Down through time, man has consistently failed in the area of service for God. Even the best of us have failed at one time or another in living for God as we should. There is example after example of this in the Bible. The Israelites failed in old testament times, the new testament believers all had their shortcomings and those who name the name of Christ today also fall short much of the time. Our text deals with sin, salvation and service. Let us look at these three things in regard to Steadfast Christianity.

I. SIN IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM. V56.
1. It is a problem in the early days.
A. In the early days of holy literature. Gen. 2: 15-17, 3:2.
B. In the early days of human life. Ps. 58:3.
2. It is problem in the middle days.
A. In the middle days of holy literature. Judges 2:16-17.
B. In the middle days of human life. Eccl. 11:9-10.
3. It is a problem in the last days.
A. In the last days of holy literature. 2Tim. 3:1-7, 2Pet. 3:3-7.
B. In the last days of human life. Eccl. 12:1-3, Ps. 71:17-18.

II. SALVATION IS CONSTANTLY PRAISEWORTHY. V57.
1. It is praiseworthy in Old Testament times. Ps. 106: 1-5.
2. It is praiseworthy in New Testament times. Rom. 15: 8-11.
3. It is praiseworthy today. Gal. 1:3-5.

III. SERVICE IS A CONTINUING PROCESS. V58.
1. True believers in the Old Testament were steadfast. Ps. 40: 9-11.
2. True believers in the New Testament were steadfast. Acts. 20: 26-28.
3. True believers today will be steadfast. 1Pet. 3: 14-18.

Conclusion: Examine yourself. Are you truly in the Faith? How do you deal with the sin problem? Do you really know Christ and show a love for Him? Do you plan and purpose your prayer time, Bible study and devotional time. Are you steadfast in witnessing and in the ministries of the local church?
The only remedy for your sin problem is Christ. The only redeemer who really redeems is Christ. The only right way to run the race after trusting Christ as your savior is to follow Him in scriptural baptism and always abound in the work of the Lord in the kind of local church that Christ called MY church. AMEN.

Friday was opening day for the Western Washington Fair at Puyallup (free admission until noon)and we rode the bus (for free). Walked and gaulked as usual. It was a little difficult this year as we have just started "counting calories" recently and had to refrain from the great Fair Food. After we wore ourselves out, we went back to the blue gate and caught the bus back to where we had parked my truck (for free)and went home and made ourselves a nice ham, lettuce, asparagos and avocado wrap with watermelon for desert and relaxed the rest of the day.

Saturday was fairly quiet. Good day again today in church. I preached on "The Pattern for Prayer". See our church website for an outline of the sermon.

Probably the big event this week is going to be our annual trek
to the Western Washington Fair in Puyallup. Opening day is this Friday.

Marion and I went to the Annual Kite Festival at Long Beach, WA. earlier in the week. We had a real good time. A few pictures are listed below. Marion is doing better on her recovery from surgery. The staples are all out now but the Dr. said she won't be able to swallow normal for about 6 to 8 weeks.

Our first SS check was direct deposited to our bank account last Wednesday without a hitch. Hooray! Will continue to promote the home business. Life is good.

Ted Tweet, Missionary to Honduras, was our guest speaker.
He preached on "Christian Confidence". I brought a lesson
in the afternoon services on King Solomon.

Marion had surgery this week and is slowly recovering
from that. Yesterday we strolled down South Tacoma Way
and viewed all the hot rods on show at the annual carshow.

We may take another trip to the ocean next week, Lord willing.

Marion and I drove over to Yakima a couple of Fridays ago and had a good visit again with sister Deuchle. Then last week we took off to the ocean and enjoyed a beautiful day on the beach flying our kites "Snoopy" and "The Red Barron". Take a look at our pictures at Picture Trail


This week we rode the bus downtown and visited the Farmers Market. It was fun and the Teriaki Steak sandwich was delicious. I took Picture of Marion with my cell phone and tried to post it here but for some reason am having problems doing that. Will work on it and see if I can post it later. She is beautiful. Pray for Marion this week. She goes into Tacoma General for some surgery on the 15th.

What do retired people do all day?

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days
interesting.

Well for example, the other day I went into town and went into a shop. I was
only in there for about 5 minutes, when I came out there was a cop writing
out a parking ticket.

I went up to him and said, Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a
break? He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi
pig. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn
tires. So I called him a jerk. He finished the second ticket and put it
on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket.
This went on for about 20 minutes.

The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote. Personally, I didn't care.
I came in to town by bus. I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm
retired.

It's important at my age. :)

Friday we drove over to Yakima and had a nice visit with sister Deuchle. She is one of our elderly members who is in an assisted living facility over there. We usually go over on the 5th Sunday of the month but my backup preacher, brother Turner, is out of town this weekend for a Bible Conference up in Eagle, Alaska.

I think this week we might take off for a few days and go to the ocean. That is one of the first things I wanted to do when I retired and so far we haven't had enough time to do it. I thought retirement would be a lot more laid back than it has been so far but I'm getting used to it and Marion and I both like it a lot....

Farewell Sister Linda

Very warm weather here lately in Tacoma. Some people say it is HOT. It doesn't even cool down very much at night. This is very unusual. Glad we have A/C in our new church property. I preached today on What Jesus taught about Marriage. Sermon outline was posted on our church web site.

Marion and I drove up to Mt. Vernon yesterday for the memorial service for sister Linda Pietsch. She was a cancer survivor for many years and then it came back in her bones and eventually the Lord took her home. Our prayers go out for dear brother Tim. He was a home missionary out of our church a few years back and Linda was always there for him and their 5 children.

The Red Planet is about to be spectacular!

This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that
will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in
recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is
in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on
Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be
certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth
in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as
60,000 years before it happens again.

The encounter will culminate on August 27th when
Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and
will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in
the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9
and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest
75-power magnification Mars will look as large as
the full moon to the naked eye.
Mars will be easy to spot. At the
beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10 PM.
and reach its azimuth at about 3 AM.

By the end of August when the two planets are
closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its
highest point in the sky at 12:30 AM. That's pretty
convenient to see something that no human being has
seen in recorded history. So, mark your calendar at
the beginning of August to see Mars grow
progressively brighter and brighter throughout the
month.

With all that is going on in the world today,
especially in relation to the nation of Israel,
it is not a suprise to me that there are unusual
things going on in the heavens too.

If you have never considered the validity of the
New Testament Gospel, may I suggest that you do so
as soon as possible? Read the gospel of John and
the book of Romans. Email me if you have questions.

If you have by faith trusted the Lord Jesus Christ
as your personal Savior, it is time to do an evaluation
of your faithfulness to HIM. You should be serving
HIM faithfully through the ministries of a true local
New Testament Church.

I look forward to being in the prayer meeting services

A guy was in a supermarket when he noticed an old lady following him around. Whenever he stopped, she stopped, and she also kept staring at him. She finally overtook him just before the checkout where she turned to him and said, "I hope I haven't made you feel uncomfortable - it's just that you look so much like my late son."

"Oh, that's ok," he said.

"I know it's silly," she continued, "but if you called out 'Goodbye, Mother' as I leave, it would make me ever so happy."

The old lady proceeded through the checkout and as she left the supermarket, the man called out "Goodbye Mother." The old lady waved back, and kindly smiled.

Pleased he had brought a bit of sunshine to someone's day, the man went to pay for his groceries.

"That'll be 105 dollars," said the clerk.

"How come?" inquired the man. "I've only bought a few things!"

"Yeah, but your mother said you'd pay for hers.

Hope you had a good 4th of July

I hope you all had a bang up fourth of July and everyone made in home OK, safe and sound. Marion and I planned to use our free passes to ride down to the waterfront and watch the fireworks from there but there were so many fine displays going on in the neighborhood we decided to just stay home and enjoy it from here. We REALLY like sitting out on the porch swing in the cool of the evening anyway.

Enjoyed good services in TLBC again today. My sermon was on "Christ's Teaching on Murder" and the outline is on the front page of our TLBC website. Marion is still recovering from a bad bout with infection in her lungs after the root canal a couple of weeks ago. She was in the hospital for a couple of days over it. I take her into the doctor tomorrow for a follow up visit. She had not been drinking her Body Balance faithfully like she should.

Even though the home team lost to the Detroit Tigers we all had a wonderful time. We rode to and from the game in a LIMO. It was great. I think I am going to really like retirement. :)

I DID it!

Greetings in the name of the Lord,

Good day in church today. I preached on "True Christianity vs False Worship" and had liberty. A copy of the sermon will be coming out on DVD soon. In the mean time you can study the sermon outline on our church web site here: TLBC .

Well, I went in to work last Thursday and fired my boss. I am now officially retired from Pierce Transit. What a great feeling. Ordinarily I would be going in to work again next time at 6PM tomorrow but, he he, now I NEVER have to go in again and I don't even have to CALL in if I'm not going to be there. Ye Haw! They had cake and ice cream for me in the lunch room, gave me a plaque and a couple of life time free bus passes and I turned in my keys, badge, cell phone, parking permit and walked off the property. I had already cleaned out my locker and removed my tool boxes the night before. What a nice birthday present to give myself. Friday evening we had a nice little get together over at Round Table Pizza and I celebrated with some close friends and family. A couple of my former crew members who were already retired came too and we had a great time.

After the dust settles from the 4th of July celebrations Marion and I will probably take off for a few days and go to the ocean.

Well there is a lot more that I could say about the events of this week but I want to keep this short. Lord bless you. Best Day of my Life

Hello everyone.

Happy Lords day again.

I'll turn 62 on Thursday the 29th and my birthday present to me is to let that be my last day at work. Friday, Marion is having a little get together for me over at the Round Table Pizza place. Should be fun. Have you ever tried to figure out what was the best day of your life? For some of us it is a hard choice.

Had a Great Fathers Day

Greetings again. It was a nice Fathers Day but my daughters and their families were not in church. My sermon in church was on "The Ministry of Salting." Click on TLBC over on the right to see the outline.

I'm a little late in getting my Sunday update logged on here, I know, but I was not able to log on any earlier. Sorry. Attendance was low today at church. We are a small group anyway and when some are out sick it is really noticable. When I retire from my secular job at the end of this month I hope to be able to get out in the neighborhood and make some more visits and invite more folks to church. I'm sure we will see an increase in attendance when I can make that happen.

Why Dogs Don't Live Longer Than People......

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a
ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners,
Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very
attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told
the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered
to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it
would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the
procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something
from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's
family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old
dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what
was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully
away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition
without any difficulty or confusion.

We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering
aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than
human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up,

"I know why."

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth
next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a
good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice,
right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know
how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

Retired Preacher

Retired Preacher

A preacher retires and moves to the country to enjoy life and practice his
hobby of yardwork. Needing a lawn mower, he heads into town to buy one. On
the way he sees a sign advertising a lawn mower for sale. He stops at the
house and a young lad comes out to greet him.

The preacher asks about the lawn mower and the kid says it’s behind the
house. The two go to look at the lawn mower. The engine is sputtering along
at idle speed. The preacher increases the speed of the engine and mows a few
strips. Satisfied that the mower will do the job, they settle on a price of
$25.

Later in the day, the young lad is riding his bicycle when he spies the
preacher pulling on the engine starter rope. The kid stops and watches for a
couple of minutes. He asks, What’s wrong?

The preacher replies, I can’t get this mower started. Do you know how?

The kid says, Yep.

Well, how do you do it?” the preacher yells. Tell me!

The kid replies, You have to curse it. The preacher rises up indignantly.
Now you listen here, he says. I am a preacher, and if I ever did curse,
I’ve forgotten how to do it after all these years. With a wise look well
beyond his years, the kid says, Preacher, you keep on pulling that rope and
it’ll all come back to you.

Memorial Day 06

We had another nice answer to prayer this week. Brother Skip's kidneys started working and they released him from the hospital. Keep praying about the blockage that he has on his heart.

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.

So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.


I thought how many men like him

How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?

Held funeral service this week for John Wilson. Pray for brother Skip in St. Joseph Hospital. Chest pain, kidney failure and diabetes.

I had to turn down two opportunities to preach at Bible Conferences next week end. Pray for the meetings in Ontario, CA and Davenport, WA. A lot of our folks will be out of town next week end. Pray for us in Tacoma that we might continue to lift up Christ in a faithful and steadfast way to His honor and glory.

I have another meeting with my financial advisor this week to help me organize things for when I retire from my secular job at Pierce Transit at the end of next month. Then I will have more time for the work of the ministry, building my
home biz and doing the things on Marion's Honey Dew list.

Here is a note for all the mothers out there:

This is for the mothers who have sat up all night with sick toddlers in
their arms, wiping up vomit laced with Oscar Mayer wieners and cherry Kool-Aid saying, "It's okay honey, Mommy's here"

Who have sat in rocking chairs for hours on end soothing crying babies who can't be comforted. This is for all the mothers who show up at work with spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse.

For all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies and sew uniforms and costumes and attend all the school, club, scout and team meetings, practices and cermonies.

This is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll never see. And the mothers who took those babies and gave them homes.

This is for the mothers whose priceless art collections are hanging on
their refrigerator doors. And for those cheer mothers whose daughter's happiness comes one unfallen stunt and one unbusted standing tuck at a time.

And for all the mothers who froze their buns on metal bleachers at
football or soccer games (or skating rinks) instead of watching
from the warmth of their cars, so that when their kids asked, "Did you see me, Mom?" they could say, "Of course, I wouldn't have missed it for the world," and mean it.

This is for all the mothers who sat down with their children and
explained all about making babies. And for all the (grand) mothers who wanted to, but just couldn't find the words.

This is for all the mothers who go hungry, so their children can eat.

For all the mothers who read "Goodnight, Moon" twice a night for a year.
And then read it again. "Just one more time."

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to tie their
shoelaces before they started school. And for all the mothers who opted for Velcro instead.

This is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook and their
daughters to sink a jump shot.

This is for every mother whose head turns automatically when a little voice calls "Mom?" in a crowd, even though they know their own children are at home -- or even away at college.

This is for all the mothers who sent their kids to school with stomach
aches, assuring them they'd be just FINE once they got there, only to get calls from the school nurse an hour later asking them to please pick them up. Right away.

This is for mothers whose children have gone astray, who can't find the words to reach them.

For all the mothers who bite their lips until they bleed when their 14 year olds dye their hair green.

For all the mothers of the victims of recent school shootings, and the
mothers of those who did the shooting.

For the mothers of the survivors, and the mothers who sat in front of their TVs in horror, hugging their child who just came home from school, safely.

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to be peaceful,
and now pray they come home safely from a war.

What makes a good Mother anyway?

Is it patience? Compassion? Broad hips? The ability to nurse a baby,
cook dinner, and sew a button on a shirt, all at the same time?

Or is it in her heart? Is it the ache you feel when you watch your son
or daughter disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the very first time?

The jolt that takes you from sleep to dread, from bed to crib at 2 A.M. to put your hand on the back of a sleeping baby?

The panic, years later, that come s again at 2 A.M. when you just want to hear their key in the door and know they are safe again in your home?

Or the need to flee from wherever you are and hug your child when you hear news of a fire, a car accident, a child dying?

The emotions of motherhood are universal and so our thoughts are for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep deprivation...

And mature mothers learning to let go.

For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers.

Single mothers and married mothers..

Mothers with money, mothers without.

This is for you all.

Hang in there. In the end we can only do the best we can. Tell them
every day that we love them. And pray.

Please pass along to all the Moms in your life.

Why the heavy load?

It was GREAT to be back in church today. I preached on "Happy are the Hungry and Thirsty." See TLBC page for the outline. Now for today's little story.

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens. "Great", she thought. "Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry."

She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there. She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth."

She thought, "Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me."

Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, "Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?"

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!

The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, "Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You."

I think it would do all of us some good to say, "God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will."

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.


Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day. Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him....I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

Oh boy, what a week end. Marion and I had planned to drive over to Yakima and visit a dear elderly church member in an assisted living facility there but I was hit suddenly Saturday by a terrible stomach flu. I'm sure that is what it was. I know I've been burning the candle at both ends here lately but they say there is a bad virus going around. My kids and grandkids had it and I'm sure that's what it was. Actually, I'm still weak, sore, and light headed from it. Anyway we had to cancel our trip and I think for the first time in many many years I did not attend worship services on the Lord's Day although I was able to listen to some CD's at home of sermons preached at a Bible Conference.

We went in last week and filed for our Social Security benefits and should get our first check the third Wednesday of August (direct deposit). We have a meeting scheduled with our financial planner to sort out our other options in retirement. The plan is still a go for saying GOOD-BYE to my secular job on my birthday this June 29th. We are still reviewing data on what to do about health insurance for the next three years while waiting for Medicare to kick in.

Blessed are they that mourn...

Greetings in the precious name of our Risen Lord. Yes, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ every 1st day of the week. I continued my series of studies today on the greatest sermon ever preached, The Sermon on the Mount. We studied the 2nd beatitude today and the title of my sermon was "Blessed are the Pining." The outline is on the TLBC front page.

I got back home last night about 10:30 PM from my trip to Salinas, California for the Memorial Services for my brother Terry Killion.

I'll be leaving in the morning again for my trip to Mt. Morris, Michigan to speak in the Bible Conference there at the Home Baptist Church where Elder Dan Gordon is the Pastor. Lord willing I'll return home again next Friday and back to work on the following Monday but only a short time left and I'll be saying goodbye to my secular job. Praise the Lord! It thrills my heart to think of it.

Pray for the Hunt family. Our dear friend Teri Hunt slipped quietly away to be with the Lord while sleeping the other night. Services will be held this Tuesday. Read the post on prayer posted earlier. I'm sorry I'll be out of town for Teri's memorial.

Pray for them and for travel mercies for all who will be traveling for the services there.

No April Fool joke this year but there are plenty of fools out there. Amen? The fool hath said in his heart there is no God.... Psalm 14.

I received a nice little study on prayer the other day from one of my old Bible College teachers who is now Pastor of a church in Ohio. I thought I'd post it here for your study. I'll comment in a moment.



Prayer: In What, For What, and To Whom?

"15 October 2003 The MANTRA study, run from Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, involved 750 patients. Before their operations, they were randomly split into two groups, and half were prayed for by Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Muslims. However, checks revealed they had fared no better than those not prayed for." [BBC]

Isn't this interesting? These folks at Duke University Medical Center think they know how to determine whether prayer is answered–that is just too interesting! However, they have made some very serious mistakes in their estimations.

Notice just a few quick thoughts: first, they surmise that the prayers of Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Muslims are all the same kind of prayers. This is miles from the truth of the matter. Secondly, they assume that all so-called Christians pray alike and believe the same thing about prayer. This is also very far from the real truth. Thirdly, they think that the results of prayer can be measured by scientific means, which is far removed from actual Biblical truth. Let's notice three things about prayer that come into my mind with just a cursory look at this subject.

First, prayer in what? These geniuses of spiritual knowledge seem to know so much about prayer, so let's ask them in what they pray? Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered We must ask by the leadership of the Holy Spirit, and he must help our infirmities.

Second, prayer for what? The Bible says in James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. There are so many stipulations to prayer, how can these carnal-minded professionals know anything about it? We may ask that God will do a particular thing, but those who truly pray do so with the idea that that particular thing may not be God's will. That is why we pray, "if the Lord will ..." We may pray for someone to be kept alive or to be healed of a disease, and it may not bring glory to God for that person to be healed. If that were so, then we could pray every time someone were ready to die, and that person would never die. We must consider God's purpose in our lives, especially in our prayer lives. So, how can these professionals measure the effectiveness of our prayer? They cannot! They think that if we pray that God will spare and person he the person dies that God has not answered our prayers. This is the epitome of ignorance. This must be that "science falsely so-called" that Paul tells Timothy about in 1 Timothy 6:20.

Third, prayer to whom? The Bible teaches us that we are to pray in Jesus' name: John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. No one who asks or prays in any other name than the name of Jesus can expect prayer to be answered; he has missed the mark, so this eliminates most of the people engaged in the prayers in this survey done by Duke University. You cannot pray in your own name or in the name of Buddha or Mohammad or even in the name of Jehovah God; it must be in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. He is the only mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

So, don't be alarmed by these "scientific" reports. They may be scientific according to human standards, but they are not very spiritual by God's standards, and these reports do show the world's ignorance of God's divine plan and purpose in our lives and the true faith of believers in Jesus Christ. Just keep praying, and God will keep answering in his own way. Thank God for answered prayer!

One that is fresh in my memory is with sister Teri Hunt. I received a call from her Pastor a couple of weeks ago saying that she was in the hospital intensive care unit and the Doctors said there was nothing more they could do for her and only gave her a short time to live. She had cancer at an earlier age and the treatments had caused damage to her heart. Two of her heart valves were leaking.

We began to pray. We asked God to spare her if He would or give grace to her family and loved ones if He should take her home. (I actually got a sympahy card in anticipation of her death) Unsaved friends and family began to come to console the family. Well, Teri started gaining strength. The medical staff were baffeled at her improvement. Her unsaved friends were also amazed and said, "It is a miracle, KEEP PRAYING!"

Teri continued to improve but her heart was not in rythem. They tried to shock it back into rythem but it did not take. We continued to pray. (I decided a Get Well card might be more appropriate) Teri's husband Jim was at her bed side and was reading scripture to her. The passage that he was reading was Psalm 31. When he got to the last verse of the Psalm (verse 24) Teri stopped him and said, "Read that verse again."

"Be of good courage and He shall strenghten your heart all ye that hope in the Lord."

As Teri and Jim thought about that verse, the nurse came rushing in from the nurses station and said, "Something has happened! Your heart is back in rythem!" On further examination the Doctor confirmed that something had happened indeed. They decided to install a pacemaker and that went well. Teri has now been released from the hospital and when she gains a little more weight they are planning to do valve replacement surgery. To me, this is an amazing and wonderful answer to prayer. I do not care what the unbelieving so-called-scientists say. God does indeed answer prayer and I PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME for it. Amen and Amen!
