Happy Fathers Day 08

Attendance was low in church today but God was there. He never fails. My sermon was on "Godly Fathers" and the outline is on the front page of TLBC website. click here Last week I preached the funeral of Janet Morgan, a former member of the church, out at the Haven of Rest Cemetery over in Gig Harbor. This Friday at 11AM I will again be preaching a graveside service for Sister Janet Sue Kaley at the Woodbine Cemetery out in Puyallup. Our heart goes out to those who are hurting at this time due to the loss of a dear loved one.

I had a "dizzy" follow up doctor appointment last week with my family doctor and he has made an appointment for me to see an ear specialist this week about my vertigo. The physical therapist has seen marked improvement with me but I seem to have hit a plateau and am not improving as fast as I once was. Your prayers are deeply appreciated as I certainly do not want to spend the rest of my life with the threat of this dizziness hanging over my head. It really has a negative affect on ones confidence.

Here is something from a book of letters written by a woman named Anne Dutton, who lived in the 1700’s in England. The Lord brought me great comfort from it and I hope that He might also bless others who read it.

"Dear Brother and Sister,

- As to my health, blessed be God, I am not worse than I was when brother was here. I dwell in a crazy tabernacle, which I think sometimes is near its dissolution. But I rejoice in that house, that building of God, eternal in the heavens, which I know, through grace, is prepared for me. I in this tabernacle groan, being burdened by reason of that sinfulness and weakness which attends and renders me incapable either to know or serve the Lord as I would, and as perfect spirits do; and this makes me long for the time when mortality shall be swallowed up of life.

We have no reason to be afraid of a separate state, for "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord." Nor yet should the saints be afraid to die, as if they should be forsaken and left to go through the last trial alone. No, our God will be with us when we come to the river Death; He will divide the water before us, and so marvellously appear in carrying us through it that we shall take thence a memorial of His infinite grace and faithfulness, as the children of Israel did when they passed through the literal Jordan (Josh. iv.7).

We should come up from the wilderness, even to the last step of it, leaning upon our Beloved, who hath said, "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee" (Heb. xiii.5). These words, "never leave thee," reach through our whole lives, even unto death, yea, into death, through death, above and beyond death, even to an endless eternity. And unless everlasting arms could wax weary, unchangeable love alter, and infinite faithfulness fail, we have no reason to be afraid. No, not in "the valley of the shadow of death" (Psa. xxii.4).

Our God will be "our refuge and strength, a very present help in that time of trouble" (Psa. xlvi.1). And as he will be the strength of our heart when heart and flesh fail us, so our portion for ever, or our eternal lot. And Oh! who can count up a thousandth part of those vast treasures of glory we have in His immense Being, as He has made over His great Self to us in Christ! Why should we, then, that are the King's sons, be lean from day to day? The Lord grant us true greatness of mind, that with a princely spirit we may behave as heirs of glory under all our present trials! Wishing all prosperity, and begging a share in your prayers, I commit you to Israel's Keeper."

Buzzards Bats and Bees

Pray for Brother Skip. He is out of the hospital now but Doctors are following up on concerns about his foot and complications from diabetes. He has already lost the other foot.

Buzzards - Bats - Bees -

BUZZARD
If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet. Without space to run, as is its habit, it will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.

BAT
The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkably nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash.

BUMBLE BEE
A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there until it dies! , unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.

PEOPLE In many ways, we are like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee. We struggle with all our problems and frustrations, never realizing that all we have to do is look up.

I've met a lot of people over the past few years that are in the MLM or home business sphere. I am often amazed at how much they all sound the same. I understand the responsibilities of doing the things needed for success in business and all of that and I know how important it is to hold oneself accountable for having the right attitude and so on but the thing that I see lacking in most of the hype from the "experts" is the "Looking Up" mentioned in the story above. I see the same problem in the lives of many in the secular world when trying to minister to them from God's word.

Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions."How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead."How old are you?" "I'm gonna be ! 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50and your dreams are gone. But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay "them "

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9 Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10.Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Talked to Brother Skip on the phone today and he is now out of the hospital too. They have him on antibiotics and the Pediatrist wants him to do a followup appointment for further review. There was a spot on the ex-ray of his foot that may be a problem. If there is infection in the bone anywhere they will have to amputate that foot also. Please keep him in your prayers as he battles the effects of diabetes.

HEROES

Good day in church again today. I was able to preach both AM and PM services after my illness and God gave strenth as needed. My morning sermon outline is on our church website click here. It was good to see Brother Jim Turner there today too after his stay in the hopital this week similar to mine the week before.

Here is a good little story about Heroes.

Captain Kangaroo passed away on January 23, 2004 at age 76 , which is odd, because he always looked to be 76. (DOB: 6/27/27.) His death reminded me of the following story. Some people have been a bit offended that the actor, Lee Marvin, is buried in a grave alongside 3 and 4 star generals at Arlington National Cemetery. His marker gives his name, rank (PVT) and service (USMC). Nothing else. Here's a guy who was only a famous movie star who served his time, why the heck does he rate burial with these guys? Well, here is the amazing answer: I always liked Lee Marvin, but didn't know the extent of his Corps experiences.

In a time when many Hollywood stars served their country in the armed forces often in rear echelon posts where they were carefully protected, only to be trotted out to perform for the cameras in war bond promotions,Lee Marvin was a genuine hero. He won the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima. There is only one higher Naval award... the Medal Of Honor. If that is a surprising comment on the true character of the man, he credits his sergeant with an even greater show of bravery.

Dialog from "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson": His guest was Lee Marvin. Johnny said, "Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are unaware that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima...and that during the course of that action you earned the Navy Cross and were severely wounded."

"Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the bottom and they gave me the Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi. Bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is guys getting' shot hauling you down. But,Johnny, at Iwo I served under the bravest man I ever knew... We both got the cross the same day, but what he did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison. That dumb guy actually stood up on Red beach and directed his troops to move forward and get the hell off the beach. Bullets flying by, with motar rounds landing everywhere and he stood there as the main target of gunfire so that he could get his men to safety. He did this on more than one occasion because his men's safety was more important than his own life. That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends. When they brought me off Suribachi we passed the Sergeant and he lit a smoke and passed it to me, lying on my belly on the litter and said, where'd they get you Lee?' Well Bob... if you make it home before me, tell Mom to sell the outhouse!" Johnny, I'm not lying, Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man I ever knew. The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan. You and the world know him as Captain Kangaroo."

On another note, there was this wimpy little man (who just passed away) on PBS, gentle and quiet. Mr. Rogers is another of those you would least suspect of being anything but what he now portrays to our youth. But Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Seal, combat-proven in Vietnam with over twenty-five confirmed kills to his name. He wore a long-sleeved sweater on TV, to cover the many tattoos on his forearm and biceps. He was a master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat, able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat.

After the war Mr. Rogers became an ordained Presbyterian minister and vowed to never harm another human and also dedicated the rest of his life to trying to help lead children on the right path in life. He hid away the tattoos and his past life and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm. America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did; they quietly go about their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best. They earned our respect and the freedoms that we all enjoy. Look around and see if you can find one of those heroes in your midst. Often, they are the ones you'd least suspect, but would most like to have on your side if anything ever happened. Take the time to thank anyone that has fought for our freedom. With encouragement they could be the next Captain Kangaroo or Mr.Rogers.

It wasn't the Big One.

Greetings again from Tacoma, Washington. What a week. I became violently ill early Tuesday afternoon and Marion called 911. The medics transported me to the hospital with what they believed were heart attack symptoms. It turns out that my problem was not heart or stroke related but a thing called severe horizontal vertigo. I was reading calmly when I suddenly had a wave of nausea and dizziness. I broke out in a sweat and began to heave with the dry heaves. It was terrible. They kept me in the hospital until early Friday afternoon. I am home now, thank the Lord, and feeling 80 to 90% better.

Last Saturday was a fun day as we celebrated our grandson AJ's birthday and this Saturday we will party again for our granddaughter Kiersten's birthday. Things are starting to get back to normal after my trip back East. Pray for our services here in Tacoma that God would save the lost and add the saved to the church. It was good to see the Turners back from their trip to Idaho Wednesday night at our prayer meeting services. Our numbers are small and we pray that God would bring more folks out to hear the true preaching of His word in our services. Worldly religious outfits around town are growing but we cannot compromise on God's word. Pray for us that we would remain true even if none others come and go with us in the way of truth.

Trip to Michigan and KY.

The trip to Michigan and Kentucky went well. I had a very uplifiting time at the Bible Conference with Home Baptist Church in Mt. Morris, Michigan. Their hospitality always is an amazement to me.

After the Conference I traveled with Kenneth and Nathon Long down to Sellersburg, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky. I preached in the AM and PM services at the Providence Baptist Church.

It was a blessing to be with the Long family again. They were our Missionaries to Vladivostoc Siberia Russia for a while back in the mid ninties. They have a nice piece of property out in the country and plenty of room for all the animals. Sister Sharon is a real animal lover. They have two creeks that run through their 9 acres. One evening we hiked up the hill to the source of one of the creeks. It was a small lake on their neighbors property.

We did a little fishing. Nathan did the best of us. He caught this catfish, some bass and some crappies. Nathan is Pastor of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Hazard, Kentucky. Remember the Dukes of hazard? :)

Anyway, they have a TV program called "Seeking the Truth" that reaches Eastern Kentucky and Nathan interviewed me for the program about the up and coming Missionary trip to Ukraine and will air it soon. It was quite an experience and opportunity. These pictures were taken with my cell phone.

We are not THAT stupid are we?

Boy am I confused. Listening to the Partisan 'politicals', I haveBeen hammered with the propaganda that it is the Iraq war and the war on terror that is bankrupting us. I find that to be RIDICULOUS.

Saturday was a beautiful day here in western Washington and my wife Marion and I went over to Silverdale to walk in the MS Walk on my sister Deanna’s team “Baby Steps”. We all walked on behalf of my niece Niki Sue, Dea’s daughter. Niki is a beautiful young woman. She has survived MS for over 18 years and is still able to walk today because of the research for new medications paid for by the funds raised at events like the annual MS Walk.

The DVD set of the Granite Bay, California Bible Conference that I attended last weekend arrived and we can make copies for anyone who wants them. We do not charge for these. If God burdens a heart to give a special love offering, it will not be refused. Here is the list.

This is our Newsletter and Quarterly Report for the 1st quarter of 2008. See our church website for the outlines of the latest sermons preached on Sunday mornings. In our afternoon services we continue to study a survey of things in the New Testament. The guest speaker for our anniversary services in January was Elder Garner Smith, Faith Missionary Baptist Church, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Sister Augusta came with him and we all had a wonderful time. They really liked the egg rolls at Yen Ching’s.

Pastor attended the Bible Conference in Granite Bay, California in March where Elder Mike Prater is Pastor. My message on “The Glory of God” was well received and I was also privileged to preach in the Sunday evening service for Cordova Missionary Baptist Church where Elder Fred Roberts is the Pastor. My message there was on “Bricks in the Wall.” I submitted this message in article form to the “Voice in the Wilderness” paper published by Elder Mark Minney in West Virginia. I submitted another article entitled “Arminian Verses?” to the Berea Baptist Banner published in Mantachie, Mississippi.

We created a new page on our church website called “Click and Listen.” It has several old audio sermons on it by brethren that have gone on to glory before us. You might like to listen to some good old time preaching. Pray also for our Radio program on KLAY 1180AM radio. It is called “The Beacon of Truth” and airs each Lords Day morning from 8:45 to 9AM.

Pastor’s back and leg (sciatic nerve) pain is gone. Thank you for your prayers. Plans for the Mission trip to Ukraine with Elder Kenneth Long have been delayed until later in the spring due to medical problems with brother Alex and his family in Chernigov. Alex needs to acquire vacation now in order to host guests from America. We will let you know more as things begin to happen. A couple of Grace Brethren guys have tried to interfere but it is no problem. The local Baptist Union organization in Chernigov is also hindering somewhat. Alex and our people had to stop holding services in the auditorium they were using due to politics. Pray that God will give them an even better place for worship.

Our church attendance here needs improvement. I posted an ad in a weekly paper for a FREE Bible Study for the Military. I hope to reach some of the personnel on Ft. Lewis and McCord AFB with this study on Basic Bible Truth. As the weather turns nicer and my sciatica is gone now, I will be out in the neighborhood again passing out gospel tracks. As I tell our members, “If we want God’s blessing on our outreach, we must outreach.”

Our Missionaries are always thankful for your prayers. Brother Bob, our Missionary in Ireland is finishing his chemotherapy for a lymphatic lesion on the optic nerve of his right eye. Brother Baldemor, our Missionary in Philippines is well. The financial needs in the Filipino work are the Lawa-an building project and brother Baldemor’s travel expenses. Sister Sue Kaley needs prayer regarding inoperable cancer. Her son is in prison. I visited him and am sending Bible Studies to him and his wife. Sister Turner might have Parkinson’s. Remember our older members in prayer and those in distant places. Thanks again for your faithful prayers. AMEN.

Isaiah 65:24

This story was written by a doctor who worked in Africa.

One night I had worked hard to help a mother in the labor ward; but in spite of all we could do, she died leaving us with a tiny premature baby and a crying two-year-old daughter.We would have difficulty keeping the baby alive, as we had no incubator (we had no electricity to run an incubator).

We also had no special feeding facilities. Although we lived on the equator, nights were often chilly with treacherous drafts. One student midwife went for the box we had for such babies and the cotton wool that the baby would be wrapped in.

Another went to stoke up the fire and fill a hot water bottle. She came back shortly in distress to tell me that in filling the bottle, it had burst (rubber perishes easily in tropical climates). 'And it is our last hot water bottle!' she exclaimed.

As in the West, it is no good crying over spilled milk so in Central Africa it might be considered no good crying over burst water bottles They do not grow on trees, and there are no drug stores down forest pathways.

'All right,' I said, 'put the baby as near the fire as you safely can, and sleep between the baby and the door to keep it free from drafts. Your job is to keep the baby warm.'

The following noon, as I did most days, I went to have prayers with any of the orphanage children who chose to gather with me. I gave the youngsters various suggestions of things to pray about and told them about the tiny baby. I explained our problem about keeping the baby warm enough, mentioning the hot water bottle, and that the baby could so easily die if it got chills. I also told them of the two-year-old sister, crying because her mother had died.

During prayer time, one ten-year old girl, Ruth, prayed with the usual blunt conciseness of our African children. 'Please, God' she prayed, 'send us a water bottle. It'll be no good tomorrow, God, as the baby will be dead, so please send it this afternoon.'

While I gasped inwardly at the audacity of the he prayer, she added, 'And while You are about it, would You please send a dolly for the little girl so she'll know You really love her?'
As often with children's prayers, I was put on the spot. Could I honestly say,'Amen'. I just did not believe that God could do this. Oh, yes, I know that He can do everything, the Bible says so. But there are limits, aren't there?

The only way God could answer this particular prayer would be by sending me a parcel from homeland. I had been in Africa for almost four years at that time, and I had never, ever received a parcel from home. Anyway, if anyone did send me a parcel, who would put in a hot water bottle? I lived on the equator! Halfway through the afternoon, while I was teaching in the nurses' training school, a message was sent that there was a car at my front door.

By the time I reached home, the car had gone, but there, on the veranda, was a large twenty-two pound parcel. I felt tears pricking my eyes. I could not open the parcel alone, so I sent for the orphanage children. Together we pulled off the string, carefully undoing each knot.. We folded the paper, taking care not to tear it unduly.

Excitement was mounting.. Some thirty or forty pairs of eyes were focused on the large cardboard box. From the top, I lifted out brightly colored, knitted jerseys. Eyes sparkled as I gave them out. Then there were the knitted bandages for the leprosy patients, and the children looked a little bored. Then came a box of mixed raisins and sultanas - that would make a batch of buns for the weekend.

Then, as I put my hand in again, I felt the.....could it really be? I grasped it and pulled it out - yes, a brand-new, rubber hot water bottle.

I cried.

I had not asked God to send it; I had not truly believed that He could. Ruth was in the front row of the children. She rushed forward, crying out, 'If God has sent the bottle, He must have sent the dolly too!'

Rummaging down to the bottom of the box, she pulled out the small, beautifully dressed dolly. Her eyes shone! She had never doubted! Looking up at me, she asked: 'Can I go over with you and give the dolly to that little girl, so she'll know that Jesus really loves her?'

That parcel had been on the way for five whole months. Packed up by my former Sunday school class, whose leader had heard and obeyed God's prompting to send a hot water bottle, even to the equator and one of the girls had put in a dolly for an African child - five months before, in answer to the believing prayer of a ten-year-old..... to bring it 'that afternoon..'

Home from California

Well, Here I am home again from the trip to California. It was a good trip. The church in Granite Bay put me up in the Orchid Suites Motel and shuttled me back and forth to the services and all the food and fellowship was wonderful. Elder Mike Prater is doing a fine job as the new Pastor there. Due to a late cancelation by the first scheduled speaker Mike moved me from last to first (can you think of a scripture for that?) and I started off the Bible Conference with a message on "The Glory of God." It was well received. After the Conference at Landmark, Elder Fred Roberts asked me to preach for them over at Cordova Missionary Baptist Church in the Evening service at Sacramento. I still had the outline in my Bible from when I preached "Bricks In The Wall" here in Tacoma. So I brought that message at Cordova and they seemed to be blessed by it too. Things went well here at home while I was gone and I'm thankful for brothers Turner and Russell who held the fort and covered for me while I was gone. I am looking forward to prayer meeting tonight. My flock is very small compared to a lot of other churches but they are special to me. Pray for us as we press on by God's grace here in Tacoma.

This weekend I will be down in the Sacramento, California area for the Bible Conference at the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Granite Bay where Elder Mike Prater is the Pastor. I'm scheduled to speak at 2:30pm Sunday afternoon the 30th.

My tickets for the April trip are now purchased and we hope to have another wonderful time of fellowship at the Bible Conference at Home Baptist church where Elder Dan Gordon is Pastor in Mt. Morris, Michigan April 15-17. After the Michigan conference I'll travel with Elder Kenneth Long, Lord willing, down to Louisville, Kentucky and preach there where he is Pastor of the Providence Baptist Church and then on Monday morning April 21 (my Mom's 85th birthday) I'll fly home and Marion will pick me up at SeaTac.

We had our youngest grand child over for Friday night and Saturday. That is always an experience. We had fun but I see that God was wise to give us children when we are young...

Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom foyer. He has been stripped of his judgeship and now they are trying to strip his right to practice law in Alabama. The judge's poem sums it up quite well.

Political Change

The buzzword of this election is "change."
Candidates toss it around without saying what they want to change to.

Years ago, there was an old tale in the Marine Corps about a lieutenant who inspected his Marines and told the "Gunny" that they smelled bad. The lieutenant suggested that they change their underwear.

The "Gunny" responded, "Aye,aye, sir. I'll see to it immediately."
He went into the tent and said, "The lieutenant thinks you smell bad and he wants you to change your underwear. Smith, you change with Jones, McCarthy, you change with Witkowskie,Brown, you change with Schultz ..."

A candidate may promise change in Washington but the stink will remain.

An eye witness account from New York City , on a cold day in December, some years ago: A little boy, about 10-years-old, was standing before a shoe store on the roadway, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.A lady approached the young boy and said, "My, but you're in such deep thought staring in that window!""I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,"was the boy's replyThe lady took him by the hand, went into the store, and asked the clerk to get half a dozen pairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her.She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel.By this time, the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the boy's feet, she purchased him a pair of shoes.She tied up the remaining pairs of socks and gave them to him.. She patted him on the head and said, "No doubt, you will be more comfortable now."As she turned to go, the astonished kid caught her by the hand, and looking up into her face, with tears in his eyes, asked her ."Are you God's wife?"

Our church attendance is shamefully low. One family of five was out of state and that is deeply felt when the group is small to begin with. I know I am not the world's greatest preacher but I do my best to preach the truth in love. I don't feel worthy to be heard but at the same time I wish the Lord would lay it on the hearts of people to listen to HIS Word. Pray for our Radio Program too, each Lord's Day morning at 8:45am on KLAY 1180am radio. It is called "The Beacon of Truth"

1) NUDITY I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year- old shout from the back seat, "Mom, that lady isn't wearing a seat belt!"

2) OPINIONS On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his teacher a note from his mother. The note read, "The opinions expressed by this child are not necessarily those of his parents."

3) KETCHUP A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup out o f the jar. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her 4-year-old daughter to answer the phone. "Mommy can't come to the phone to talk to you right now. She's hitting the bottle."

4) MORE NUDITY A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women's locker room. When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing towels and running for cover. The little boy watched in amazement and then asked, "What's the matter, haven't you ever seen a little boy before?"

5) POLICE # 1 While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about 6 years old. Looking up and down at my uniform, she asked, "Are you a cop?" "Yes," I answered and continued writing the report. "My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?" "Yes, that's right," I told her. "Well, then," she said as she extended her foot toward me, "would you please tie my shoe?"

6) POLICE # 2 It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me "Is that a dog you got back there?" he asked. "It sure is," I replied. Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van. F inally he said, "What'd he do?"

7) ELDERLY While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, "The tooth fairy will never believe this!"

8) DRESS-UP A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her dad donning his tuxedo, she warned, "Daddy, you shouldn't wear that suit." "And why not, darling?" ; "You know that it always gives you a headache the next morning."

9) DEATH While walking along the sidewalk in front of his church, our minister heard the intoning of a prayer that nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his playmates had found a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased. The minister's son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he thought his father always said: "Glory be unto the Faaather, and unto the Sonnn, and into the hole he goooes." (I want this line used at my funeral!)

10) SCHOOL A little girl had just finished her first week of school. "I'm just wasting my time," she said to her mother. "I can't read, I can't write and they won't let me talk!"

11) BIBLE A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up th e object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had bee n pressed in between the pages. "Mama, look what I found," the boy called out. "What have you got there, dear?" With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear."

How to Go to Heaven
A teacher was testing the children in her Sunday School class to see if they understood the concept of getting to Heaven. She asked them, "If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale and gave all my money to the church, would that get me into Heaven?""NO!" the children answered. "If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would that get me into Heaven? "Again, the answer was, "NO!" "Well, then, if I was kind to animals and gave candy to all the children, and loved my husband, would that get me into Heaven?" she asked them again. Again, they all answered, "NO! What's Wrong With These People?

They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk: Why you ain't, Where you is, What he drive, Where he stay, Where he work, Who you be... And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk.
Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth. In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.
People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around. The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids. $500 sneakers for what? And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics?
I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was 2? Where were you when he was 12? Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol? And where is the father? Or who is his father?

People putting their clothes on backward: Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong? People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something? Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up? Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body?

What part of Africa did this come from? We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap, and all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person 's problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back. People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' - or men or whatever you call them now. We have millionaire football players who cannot read. We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us. We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.

Parable of the spoons

A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, "Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like. "The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful, but because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said, "You have seen Hell."

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, "I don't understand." It is simple" said the Lord, "it requires but one skill. You see, they have learned to feed each other. While the greedy think only of themselves.

A Canadian's View of Our Candidates.

Democrat or Republican? The question is shockingly easy!

An obvious choice can be unnerving. When the apparent perfection of one option or the unspeakable awfulness of another makes a decision seem too easy, it is human nature to become suspicious. This instinct intensifies as the stakes of the given choice are raised.

American voters know no greater responsibility to their country and to the world than to select their president wisely. While we do not yet know who the Democrat and Republican nominees will be, any combination of the leading candidates from either party will make for the most obvious choice put to American voters in a generation. To wit, none of the Democrats has any business being president.

This pronouncement has less to do with any apparent perfection among the Republican candidates than with the intellectual and experiential paucity evinced by the Democratic field. "Not ready for prime time," goes the vernacular, but this does not suffice to describe how bad things are. Alongside Hillary Clinton, add Barack Obama's kindergarten essays to an already confused conversation about Dennis Kucinich's UFO sightings, dueling celebrity endorsements and who can be quickest to retreat from America's global conflict and raise taxes on the American people, and it becomes clear that these are profoundly unserious individuals.

To be sure, there has been a fair amount of rubbish and rhubarb on the Republican side (Ron Paul, call your office), but even a cursory review of the legislative and professional records of the leading contenders from each party reveals a disparity akin to adults competing with children. For the Republicans, Rudy Giuliani served as a two-term mayor of New York City, turning a budget deficit into a surplus and taming what was thought to be an ungovernable metropolis. Prior to that, he held the third-highest rank in the Reagan Justice Department, obtaining over 4,000 convictions. Mitt Romney, before serving as governor of Massachusetts, founded a venture capital firm that created billions of dollars in shareholder value, and he then went on to save the Salt Lake City Olympics. While much is made of Mike Huckabee's history as a Baptist minister, he was also a governor for more than a decade and, while Arkansas is hardly a "cradle of presidents," it has launched at least one previous chief executive to national office. John McCain's legislative and military career spans five decades, with half that time having been spent in the Congress. Even Fred Thompson, whose excess of nonchalance has transformed his once-promising campaign into nothing more than a theoretical possibility, has more experience in the U.S. Senate than any of the leading Democratic candidates.

With just over one term as a Senator to her credit, Hillary Clinton boasts the most extensive record of the potential Democratic nominees. In that time, Senator Clinton cannot claim a single legislative accomplishment of note, and she is best known lately for requesting $1-million from Congress for a museum to commemorate Woodstock. Barack Obama is nearing the halfway point of his first term in the Senate, having previously served as an Illinois state legislator and, as Clinton has correctly pointed out, has done nothing but run for president since he first arrived in Washington. Between calling for the invasion of Pakistan and fumbling a simple question on driver's licenses for illegal aliens, Obama has shown that he is not the fellow to whom the nation ought to hike the nuclear football. John Edwards, meanwhile, embodies the adage that the American people will elect anyone to Congress -- once. From his $1,200 haircuts to his personal war on poverty, proclaimed from the porch of his 28,000-square-foot home, purchased with the proceeds of preposterous lawsuits exploiting infant cerebral palsy, Edwards is living proof that history can play out as tragedy and farce simultaneously.

Forget for a moment all that you believe about public policy. Discard your notions about taxes and Iraq, free trade and crime, and consider solely the experience of these two sets of candidates. Is there any serious issue that you would prefer to entrust to a person with the Democrats' experience, rather than that of any of the Republicans? Now consider the state of debate in each party. While the Republicans compare tax proposals and the best way to prosecute the War on Terror, Democrats are divining the patterns and meaning of the glitter and dried macaroni glued to the page of one of their leading candidate's kindergarten projects. Does this decision not become unsettlingly simple?

MARC (age 4) was engrossed in a young couple that were hugging and kissing in a restaurant. Without taking his eyes off them, he asked his dad: "Why is he whispering in her mouth?"

CLINTON (age 5) was in his bedroom looking worried. When his Mom asked what was troubling him, he replied, "I don't know what'll happen with this bed when I get married. How will my wife fit in?"

JAMES (age 4) was listening to a Bible story. His dad read: "The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city but his wife looked back and was turned to salt." Concerned, James asked: "What happened to the flea?"

TAMMY! (age 4) was with her mother when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mom knew. Tammy looked at her for awhile and then asked, "Why doesn't your skin fit your face?"

The Sermon I think one Mom will never forget.... this particular Sunday...

"Dear Lord," the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. "Without you, we are but dust."

He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter (who was listening!) Leaned over and asked quite audibly in her shrill little girl voice, "Mom, what is butt dust?"

Riley and Bailey (our granddaughter and grandson) spent the weekend with us this week. Their Mom and Dad (Tammy our daughter) are in the mountains playing snowshoe soft ball. Kiresten and Andrum (our other granddaughter and grandson) will be over tomorrow to spend the day with us. Their Day Care is closed due to Presidents Day and Mom (Cindi our daughter) has a project at World Vision she must work on. Things went smoothly in our serices today at TLBC. The Folded Napkin

Why Did Jesus Fold The Napkin???

The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the Napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed at the head of that stony Coffin. Early Sunday morning, while it was Still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been Rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, "They Have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put Him!" Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb To see. The other disciple outran Peter and got there first. He stooped and looked in and saw the Linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus' head was folded up and lying to the side.

Is that Important? Absolutely! Is it really significant? Yes! In order To understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a Little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day.

The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition. When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly, and then The servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master was finished.

Now if the master was done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his Fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and toss It onto the table. The servant would then know to clear the table. For in Those days, the wadded napkin meant, "I'm done". But if the master got up From the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant Would not dare touch the table, because..........

The folded napkin Meant, "I'm coming back!"

Marion and I attended the award ceremonies last night for a national Quad Racing Association where our 8 year old granddaughter won several trophies including 1st in 70ccB and 1st in 70cc Open. We were very impressed.

Super Sunday

Good services today at TLBC. I preached on "Happiness." The sermon outline will be placed on our church website when the server is back in service. I could not make the connection a moment ago. Can't get on JUNO either to check my email. Superbowl Sunday must be putting an extra burden on the net for some reason today.

We had a wonderful time of special services in celebration of our 28th anniversary as a church. Elder Garner Smith brought some outstanding sermons 7PM nightly from January 24 thru 30th including both our normal services last Lord's Day. This is our Newsletter and Quarterly Report for the 4th quarter of 2007. Pastor preached on a variety of topical sermons. See our church website for the outlines of the latest sermons preached on Sunday mornings. In our afternoon services we continue to study a survey of things in the New Testament.

Pastor didn’t travel this quarter except for a short trip to Lake Tahoe with sister Marion for our 42nd anniversary. Sister Marion was ill with a bad cold at the time but is recovered from that now. In fact, just about everyone in the church was hit hard this winter with colds and the flu.

Sister Marion’s back is much better. Pastor’s back and leg (sciatic nerve) pain is still there. He is getting a MRI on the 18th of January. Pastor will be taking a trip to teach, baptize, ordain an elder and organize a church in the Ukraine. Brother Kenneth Long will accompany him. Plans for the trip have been delayed until the spring due to medical problems with brother Alex and his family in Chernigov. Alex needs to acquire vacation now in order to host guests from America.

Our church attendance still needs improvement. We had to discipline some for non-attendance.
Our membership is less able to get out and about so we are praying for divine leadership on other ways to let folks know about our services. God opened the door for us to reactivate our Radio program. We broadcast “The Beacon of Truth” locally on KLAY 1180am Radio each Sunday morning from 8:45am to 9:00am.

Our Missionaries are always thankful for your prayerful support. The new members in Cork, Ireland are growing in grace. Brother Bob, our Missionary is presently receiving chemotherapy for a lymphatic lesion on the optic nerve of his right eye. Please keep this in your prayers. Brother Baldemor, our Missionary in Philippines hopes to organize the Lawa-an Mission into a church soon in Northwestern Mindanao. The financial needs in the Filipino mission work are for the Lawa-an building project and for help with brother Baldemor’s travel expenses ($300 per month).

We are looking forward to hearing Elder Garner Smith preach for us again in a revival meeting the end of January. Pray for true revival. Pastor’s cousin, Wayne Leroy Williams passed away. Sister Sue Kaley needs prayer regarding her inoperable lung cancer.
Remember our older members in prayer and those who are in distant places.

Thanks again to those who faithfully remember us in prayer. We need it. We love you in the Lord. Pray for our children and grand children. Pray that God would be pleased in His sovereign grace to save the lost and add the saved to the church.

1787 Historian on Democracy

About the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship." "The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years.

During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;

2. From spiritual faith to great courage;

3. From courage to liberty;

4. From liberty to abundance;

5. From abundance to complacency;

6. From complacency to apathy;

7. From apathy to dependence;

8. From dependence back into bondage "

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul,Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election.

Population of counties won by: Gore: 127 million; Bush: 143 million;

Square miles of land won by: Gore: 580,000; Bush: 2,427,000

States won by: Gore: 19; Bush: 29

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Gore: 13.2; Bush 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens of this great country. Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off government welfare . . " Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some 40 percent of the nation's population already having reached the"governmental dependency" phase. If the Senate grants Amnesty and citizenship to 20 million criminal invaderscalled illegals and they vote, then goodbye USA in less than 5 years. Pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Retirement 101

Well, it has been about a year and a half now and I am starting to enjoy retirement even more and more. Here are a few things I've learned in the last year and a half.

Q. When is a retiree's bedtime?

A. Three hours after they fall asleep on Couch.

Q. How many retirees to change a light bulb?

A. Only one, but it might take all day.

Q. What's the biggest gripe of retirees?

A. There is not enough time to get everything done.

Q. Why don't retirees mind being called Seniors?

A. The term comes with a 10% percent discount.

Q. Among retirees what is considered casual attire?

A. Tied shoes.

Q. Why do retirees count pennies?

A. They are the only ones who have the time.

Q. What is the common term for someone who enjoys work and refuses to retire?

A. NUTS!

Q. Why are retirees so slow to clean out the basement, attic or garage?

A. They know that as soon as they do, one of their adult kids will want to store stuff there.

Q. What do retirees call a long lunch?

A. Normal

Q. What is the best way to describe retirement?

A. The never ending Coffee Break .

Q. What's the biggest advantage of going back to school as a retiree?

A. If you cut classes, no one calls your parents.

Q. Why do retirees often say they don't miss work, but miss the people they used to work with?

A. They are too polite to tell the whole truth

The fireworks on the Space Needle were disappointing last night. Marion and I watched them from the comfort of our family room as usual. We are lounging around the house today. One of my traffic exchanges that I'm in is having a surfing marathon contest today. I may surf a little on it but have no desire to be competitive in it. In fact, my strategy in my online efforts this year is to do less ads etc. and simply acquire prospects through C4L and work to turn them into customers in LFI by making maybe five or ten phone calls per day.
