The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16b
Dear Praying Friends,
Here is a great report regarding last Thursday's nationwide observance of the National Day of Prayer! To God be the glory!
All 50 Governors and the President of the United States proclaimed the 62nd annual National Day of Prayer as millions of Americans gathered from coast to coast in solemn assembly. It was the single, largest mobilized effort to prayer in the history of our nation with more than 42,000 events taking place at courthouse steps, parks, offices, government buildings, churches and homes symbolizing a single prayer - one voice - one cry - for such a time as this.
Stadiums were filled from Pennsylvania to Minnesota with shouts of prayer and adoration. Parades, motorcycle rallies, hot air balloon launches and more were parts of the celebration. In Washington D.C., the day was marked by standing room only events with extended lines... "Revive us again" was the popular theme of the season as millions united in prayer...
Revival is not new - God has always intervened trying to get us out of our stagnation and apathy. The Old Testament is a history of revival. In fact, one scholar indicated 7 major revival periods with over 16 clear cultural moves of God during that time...
Following the church from the 14th century throughout modern times, we can document 54 revivals according to many theological sources. In the United States we have seen 3 great times of revival ...
Evidence that God is calling his people to revival is overwhelming... The formula is written for us clearly in II Chronicles 7:14 and God's people are responding... He has called his church to: 1) Return to Him with humility; 2) Pray unceasingly; 3) Seek His face unconditionally; 4) Turn from our wicked ways; 5) Live in unity: 6) Persevere until His return!
Many will watch the headlines to see if there is instant change in America as a result of this massive public outcry. What we must remember is that God will respond in His timing. Our prayers will not go unanswered. Like the disciples who waited 50 days for the promise of Christ to be fulfilled on Pentecost, we must be patient and remain mobilized and confident that the prayers of His people are powerful and effective. Generations not yet born will praise the Lord (Ps 102:18).
May God bless America once more! (America Mobilized in Prayer, John Bornschein, Vice Chairman, National Day of Prayer Task Force).
  • Thanks be to God for the NDP, the tireless labors of the NDP Task Force, and for this great report which offers hope to the prayer movement and America! We are troubled on every side, yet praise God for the growing number of men, women, boys and girls who are crying out to God in repentance for revival! Leaning on the Lord, may we build on the faith and prayer of the National Day of Prayer! God is our HOPE! (2 Chr 7:14; Ps 78:5-8; Joel 1:14; 2:15-18; Luke 18:1-8; Acts 3:19; Gal 6:8-9; Rev 5:8)
Call2Fall, June 30, 2013 - The National Day of Prayer may be the most important day on our prayer calendar. Yet people say to me often, "we need a National Day of Prayer every day!" I couldn't agree more! Call2Fall is just weeks away!
Scripture teaches, "Pray without ceasing" (1 Th 5:17); "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority..." (1 Tim 2:1-2); "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (2 Chr 7:14). Never weary of these verses; They are our hope!
Call2Fall is also an important day on our calendar (see Call2Fall.com). The Lord led FRC President Tony Perkins to bring it to birth (see Introducing Call2Fall). Many churches observe the Sunday closest to July 4th as Citizenship Sunday to celebrate America's Christian heritage and the liberty we enjoy. Call2Fallbrings 2 Chr 7:14 into the picture. Pastors across America lead their people physically to take to their knees (5 minutes or more) in an act of humility before God, to repent for themselves and for our nation. Sunday, June 30th -- prior to the 4th of July -- becomes a day for God's churches and people to repent, pray and give God thanks, before America breaks out the fireworks and picnic gear. It is reminiscent of the days of fasting and prayer that preceded the writing of the Declaration of Independence! We need the character, courage and devotion believers had in that era.
Our nation faces immense problems: family, government, education, military, business and industry, media, arts and entertainment, science and technology, and the Church. Even many of our churches have abandoned the Bible for religious ritual without God.
God's alert people are thirsty for God and His Word, and sense the urgent need for revival and spiritual awakening. They love and fear God, and marvel at His amazing mercy toward America. Yet they know it cannot last without repentance. Consider God's warnings: "I will pronounce my judgments on my people because of their wickedness in forsaking me..." (Jer 1:16); "The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God" (Ps 9:17); "If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed" (Dt 8:19-20).
Blessed above all nations, America's sins have become innumerable (Pr 5:21-23). God's judgments are already underway. The worst can be averted only by national REPENTANCE and God-sent Awakening, beginning with our churches.
Nearly 1.5 million Americans joined in last year's Call2Fall. Churches across America gave us amazing reports of the impact upon their congregations. If you have not already done so, please start by going to Call2Fall.com and click I'm In!
  • May thousands more pastors and churches participate in Call2Fall Sunday, June 30th! As believers, may we fall to our knees every day with humility and repentance, crying out to God as a way of life! May we see God send revival to our churches and the nationwide awakening we so desperately need! (Ps 85:6; Is 1:14-20; Is 62:1; Joel 2:12-18, esp. v 17; Jonah 3: all; John 10:10; Acts 3:19; 17:24-31).
Finally, the Pentagon has issued several confusing statements over the last week after the Washington Post reported the Air Force's plan to distribute a booklet that would subject Christian servicemen to court martial if found guilty of sharing their faith. Christians remain deeply concerned over the language being used. Just such a mindset led to Tony Perkins being disinvited to speak at an Andrews Air Force Base prayer breakfast; Franklin Graham being disinvited from addressing troops at the Pentagon on the National Day of Prayer; and Lt. General Jerry Boykin being disinvited from addressing cadets at West Point. Recent revelations show anti-Christian activist Mikey Weinstein, an unpaid advisor to the Air Force for the last four years, as having shaped military policy makers to silence Christian expression within the services. But Coast Guard Rear Admiral William D. Lee, speaking at the National Day of Prayer event in Washington last week, departed from his prepared remarks to speak from the heart regarding the growing intolerance in the military. He vowed allegiance to Christ, and his unwillingness to allow his and others' Constitutional right to religious liberty to be taken away. Please pray for Admiral Lee and our military men and women. Pray, too, for Mikey Weinstein and other religious adversaries, that they will have an encounter with Jesus Christ and find the liberty available only in Him! Please also read attorney Cathy Ruse's analysis of the Boy Scouts' situation and continue to barrage heaven with prayer! Thank you for praying!
Sincerely,

Rev. Pierre Bynum
