Audie Murphy

His life story is depicted in the movie "To Hell and Back".  He got his sister to sign for him to enter the Army only after the Navy, Marines, Paratroopers rejected him, as he was only 16 and had quit school at age 12!  Just before his 19th birthday he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and became the MOST DECORATED soldier in our Nation's history!  A wound in his hip ended his Army career.

Audie Murphy's Wife...

Not many young people know who Audie Murphy was or how big a war hero he was. Two or three of the medals he earned would make most service men proud, but to have earned his decorations in battle is truly unbelievable.

Now to find out that his widow was also most certainly a hero. Truly fantastic. I am so grateful to have received this email. I hope you are too.

Isn't it sad the media can tell us all about the BAD that goes on, but ignores the GOOD people. If a movie star or politician stubs their toe we have to hear about it for days!!!

(From the Los Angeles Times on April 15, 2010)
Pamela Murphy, widow of WWII hero and actor, Audie Murphy, died peacefully at her home on April 8, 2010. She was the widow of the most decorated WWII hero and actor, Audie Murphy, and established her own distinctive 35 year career working as a patient liaison at the Sepulveda Veterans Administration hospital, treating every veteran who visited the facility as if they were a VIP.
Any soldier or Marine who came into the hospital got the same special treatment from her. She would walk the hallways with her clipboard in hand making sure her boys got to see the specialist they needed.
If they didn't, watch out. Her boys weren't Medal of Honor recipients or movie stars like Audie, but that didn't matter to Pam. They had served their country. That was good enough for her. She never called a veteran by his first name. It was always "Mister." Respect came with the job.
"Nobody could cut through VA red tape faster than Mrs. Murphy," said veteran Stephen Sherman, speaking for thousands of veterans she befriended over the years. "Many times I watched her march a veteran who had been waiting more than an hour right into the doctor's office. She was even reprimanded a few times, but it didn't matter to Mrs. Murphy. "Only her boys mattered. She was our angel."
Audie Murphy died broke in a plane crash in 1971, squandering millions of dollars on gambling, bad investments, and yes, other women. "Even with the adultery and desertion at the end, he always remained my hero," Pam told me.
She went from a comfortable ranch-style home in Van Nuys where she raised two sons to a small apartment - taking a clerk's job at the nearby VA to support herself and start paying off her faded movie star husband's debts. At first, no one knew who she was. Soon, though, word spread through the VA that the nice woman with the clipboard was Audie Murphy's widow. It was like saying General Patton had just walked in the front door. Men with tears in their eyes walked up to her and gave her a hug.
"Thank you," they said, over and over.
The first couple of years, I think the hugs were more for Audie's memory as a war hero. The last 30 years, they were for Pam.
One year I asked her to be the focus of a Veteran's Day column for all the work she had done. Pam just shook her head no.
"Honor them, not me," she said, pointing to a group of veterans down the hallway. "They're the ones who deserve it."
The vets disagreed. Mrs. Murphy deserved the accolades, they said. Incredibly, in 2002, Pam's job was going to be eliminated in budget cuts. She was considered "excess staff." "I don't think helping cut down on veterans' complaints and showing them the respect they deserve, should be considered excess staff," she told me. Neither did the veterans. They went ballistic, holding a rally for her outside the VA gates. Pretty soon, word came down from the top of the VA. Pam Murphy was no longer considered "excess staff."
She remained working full time at the VA until 2007 when she was 87.
"The last time she was here was a couple of years ago for the conference we had for homeless veterans," said Becky James, coordinator of the VA's Veterans History Project. Pam wanted to see if there was anything she could do to help some more of her boys. Pam Murphy was 90 when she died last week. What a lady.

WA Senator Mike Carrell

Senator Carrell

Senator Mike Carrell passed away on the morning of May 29, 2013 in his sleep, surrounded by his wife, Charlotte, family and friends.   He was 69 years old and had been battling a blood disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), also known as pre-leukemia, since early this year.  Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Senator Carrell was from Lakewood in Pierce County and proudly served the 28th District as a Republican.  He was a very good man who had a tremendous servant's heart.  He began his service as a school teacher.  Then upon retirement from his 30 year career, he began serving his community as a Washington State legislator in 1995 until his death.

He was a great friend to us at the Family Policy Institute of Washington and families across the state, a tremendous pro-lifer and defender of parental rights and religious freedom.

Now we have the opportunity to give back to Senator Carrell.  His insurance did not cover all the bills of his costly medical treatment.  Please consider lifting this burden from the Carrell family and helping them pay these bills by contributing to a fund that was set up by his friends.  You may do so by going to

We could say much more about the amazing work ethic, perseverance, dedication and wonderful acts of Senator Carrell.  You may learn more about this generous man at the above website.  He will be deeply missed.

MUST READ: Silicon Valley Mercury News published our op-ed

American technology giant Apple was recently under fire from the media and Congress when it was revealed that the company is effectively lowering its tax burden by keeping profits out of the U.S. Instead, Apple is parking them in countries with much lower or no corporate tax rate.  While many are incensed that the world's most profitable technology company pays such a low rate, Apple has done nothing wrong and is only adapting an unusually high and jumbled tax code that we have created in the U.S.

The cure is to lower the U.S. corporate tax rate, the highest in the world, and to simplify the tax code. We wanted to share with you an op-ed that the Silicon Valley Mercury News published today from our Chief Strategist Sal Russo.

Apple and tax reform: Controversy should provide incentive for Silicon Valley to join the tea party

By Sal Russo, 05/29/2013

Silicon Valley has been a phenomenal success story in almost every way, and sometimes that can breed a feeling that good times will go on forever. The tea party movement has not found a lot of Valley support in its efforts to scale back the size, cost and intrusiveness of the federal government. But perhaps the attack on Apple's tax avoidance strategy will serve as a wake-up call to the tech community.

Apple CEO Tim Cook's call for corporate tax reform was music to the ears of tea partiers. His company is illustrating a basic truth: When taxes get too high, people will avoid paying them either by using tax avoidance strategies, as Apple has done, or by not producing more goods and services that consumers want. All of it is bad for economic growth and provides fewer opportunities for American workers.

Apple's success has been defined by its simple, intuitive designs. It is too bad the same can't be said about the U.S. federal tax code. There is nothing sleek and sexy about the 73,954 pages of complex jargon that incentivizes offshore stashes and encourages the type of crony capitalism that gives favors to special interests.

Presidents John Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton all supported lower tax rates; the wisdom of lower rates should be indisputable. Unfortunately, President Barack Obama has shown no interest in meaningful tax reform, only in his policy of high tax rates and special favors for industries or companies he

That's why it's mind-boggling that employees of companies like Apple have supported Obama so overwhelmingly, even as his policies have impaired economic growth. During the 2012 election cycle, 87.3 percent of contributions from Apple employees to presidential candidates went to Obama - a total of $307,831.

Obama is happy to keep spending more money, raising more taxes, passing more regulations and promoting unsustainable increases in the national debt. Despite the results of these policies -- inhibiting economic growth and profitability -- Silicon Valley has unfortunately been loyal with its votes and money.

It is hard to make a strong case that Apple should pay the United States' exorbitant tax rates when the company can park its money overseas and pay limited taxes. The U.S. corporate tax rate is a whopping 35 percent. That is the highest in the world, and it is also 10 percentage points higher than the 34-nation Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development average.

If U.S. tax policy encouraged repatriation of overseas profits, some of those dollars would provide more in government revenue and, most importantly, give more generous rewards to shareholders. Think of what those billions of dollars sitting overseas could do to help these companies and our economy grow. Sen. Rand Paul was correct to put the blame on Congress, not Apple, for poor policies.

A 2011 New America Foundation study advocated the reduction of the corporate tax rate on repatriated profits to create an economic boost. The study estimated that the policy would result in 1.3 million to 2.5 million new jobs and an increase of $36 billion in federal tax revenue.

With anemic economic growth and crippling debt, it is hard to imagine that the public and private sectors cannot come together to demand this kind of change.

This is a good time for Silicon Valley to wake up and join the tea party in advocating for fundamental tax reform. Big and intrusive government with high taxes does not work if you want economic growth and opportunity for our people.

STOP this gun grabber idiot.

    Dear fellow patriot,
Barack Obama has announced that on June 3 he will sign a UN treaty banning guns and registering gun owners.

And he will twist the US Senate to approve it, just like he did with ObamaCare.

I just signed a letter to Obama warning him to not sign this UN gun grab.

They claim it only targets "arms dealers, " but it would also require nations to ban many popular types of personal firearms.

   Not angry yet?

The text of the UN treaty requires nations to record and track all guns...

...and all "end users" of guns.

That means Obama's UN gun scheme would create a national registry of private gun owners.

Even worse, Obama would submit his list of gun owners to the UN's "international secretariat.”

The right to keep and bear arms is granted by God and protecting from government aggression by the Constitution.  It is not subject to the whims of global totalitarians massed in New York City.

   I will not back down.

We must not let Obama literally hand over our gun rights to the UN.

go here to chip in $10 or more to help me mount an aggressive campaign to defeat Obama's UN gun grab and turn over the names of all US gun owners to the UN's "international secretariat.”
Obama's last gun grab failed because we killed it in the House.

That's why Obama is signing a UN treaty -- it doesn't go through the House.

But that doesn't mean I won't fight to stop him.

   Please stand with me by
going here to chip in $10 or more today.
   Warmest wishes,
   Congressman Steve Stockman

P.S. Next week Obama will sign a UN treaty banning guns and registering gun owners.  Then he will twist the Democrat-controlled Senate to make it law, like he did with ObamaCare.  His UN scheme would even turn over the names of all US gun owners to the UN's "international secretariat.”
By adopting a UN treaty to ban guns he can enact gun control without a vote of the Republican-controlled House.  I won't let him succeed.
Please stand with me by going here chipping in $10 or more to stop Obama's UN scheme to ban guns and report gun owners to the UN.

This week, the ACLJ went on the attack.
Our lawsuit against the IRS – filed on behalf of 25 conservative groups – made national and international news.
This lawsuit, the largest suit filed in ACLJ history, already has the Obama Administration on its heels. Contrary to the Administration's spin, IRS abuse is severe, widespread, and ongoing – and we can prove it.
Now we demand to know why the IRS Commissioner visited the White House more than any member of President Obama's cabinet.
The national outrage is building to a critical mass, with even mainstream media reporters asking tough questions.
We must maintain the pressure. More than 100,000 Americans have demanded that the Obama Administration end IRS abuses. Add your voice today.
