Dear Mr. Larry Killion,
Thank you for contacting Rep. Derek Kilmer about H.R. 704, Military Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act & H.R. 705, Fort Hood Victims and Families Benefits Protection Act. Derek appreciated you writing in about this issue and asked me to follow-up.
Derek is grateful for the tremendous dedication and sacrifice of service members and their families. Our nation enjoys unparalleled freedom because of the commitment of our troops—a commitment we should return as we continue to support the service members and families who have dedicated their lives to serve and protect our nation. Derek believes that if you serve our country, we should have your back.
Rep. John Carter (Texas) has introduced the Military Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act. This legislation would provide whistleblower protections to a member of the Armed Forces who complains or discloses evidence of ideologically based threats or actions of another member that may be counterproductive or detrimental to U.S. interests or security.
Rep. John Carter (Tex.) has also introduced the Fort Hood Victims and Families Benefits Protection Act. This legislation would express that congress believes that any member of the Armed Forces who was killed or wounded in the attack at Fort Hood, Texas, on November 5, 2009, and their family members should receive the same treatment and benefits as the victims and families of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and that they should receive the same benefits as individuals that have been killed or wounded in an overseas combat zone such as Iraq or Afghanistan.
He will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind as Congress debates this issue in the future. Derek encourages you to continue to share your views with him on this topic or any other issue.
Thank you for reaching out and please continue to do so through kilmer.house.gov/contact.
