The book of Joel is an interesting parallel to our text. There are certain things America faces today that relate to it all.Our economy is in frail condition indeed. The DOW, as a key market indicator, is in a very volatile condition. We are surely living in a time of pestilences. The formula for recovery for the Hebrew people was in verse 14 of our text and the same is so today for our land.Let us consider for a few moments God’s call to fall on our knees in repentant prayer according to our text and in the book of Joel.We will notice four points:The Hurt, The Heart, The How, and The Hope.
Persuasion for Prayer Matt.21:22, Mk.11:24. Pray. In the days just prior to the betrayal and crucifixion of Christ, He did a miracle regarding a fig tree. The disciples were so amazed by the miracle that He used it to teach them a lesson on faith and prayer.Faith is a very important part of prayer and if we pray properly, faith says to God, “I know God can do what I cannot do, God can do the impossible.”It is faith that is the persuading part of our prayer.God will do what we ask Him to do in prayer because of the faith that we have in Him to do it.Consider two things about the “Persuasion for Prayer.”

The
town flooded, and the police came in, evacuated the population … and
then confiscated the residents’ guns out of their empty houses.
The residents of High River, Alberta, population nearly 13,000, are
still awaiting authorities’ permission to return to their homes. Dozens
have been engaged in a standoff with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
at a checkpoint at the edge of town since floodwaters prompted a forced
evacuation last week.
Several news sources report tensions are high since news broke police have also been gathering residents’ firearms.
“I find that absolutely incredible that they have the right to go
into a person’s belongings out of their home,” resident Brenda Lackey
told the Calgary Herald. “When people find out about this, there’s going
to be untold hell to pay.”
“This is the reason the U.S. has the right to bear arms,” said
Charles Timpano at the checkpoint, where he and others have gathered to
demand reentry into High River.
Video of the standoff can be seen below:
The police, thus far, insist the gun confiscation is only for the citizens’ safety and that the firearms will be returned.
“We just want to make sure that all of those things are in a spot
that we control, simply because of what they are,” Sgt. Brian Topham
told the Herald. “People have a significant amount of money invested in
firearms … so we put them in a place that we control and that they’re
safe.”
Alberta Premier Alison Redford defended the action: “I think what we
need to understand is these are exceptional circumstances. … In an
emergency situation we need to have our police ensuring there is law and
order.”
The RCMP further released a written statement explaining owners
wouldn’t want their firearms to “fall into the wrong hands” during the
evacuation and pledging to return guns to owners “as soon as practically
possible.”
The statement said the guns were found “in plain view” during search
and rescue operations, a potential problem, since Canadian law requires
gun owners keep firearms in locked vaults or containers.
Yet Solicitor General Jonathan Denis has suggested the owners aren’t likely to face prosecution.
“My personal view is we have to consider the context we’re dealing
with,” Denis said in an interview Friday. “I wouldn’t be surprised
people took guns out of their lockers so they wouldn’t get flooded.”
He added, “I will work with the RCMP to ensure there’s an orderly return of property.”
Sgt. Topham told the Herald the confiscated guns have been
inventoried and are secured at an RCMP detachment. He would not specify
how many firearms had been confiscated, only that “a large quantity” had
been taken because they were “left by residents in their places.” The guns will be returned to owners after residents are allowed back in town and they provide proof of ownership, Topham added. CBC News reports local officials have announced some residents will be allowed to return to their homes on Saturday.
Obama Administration support for the Muslim Brotherhood is out of control.
Yesterday we learned that Sheikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah met with key
members of President Obama's national security team, in the White House.
The problem? Abdullah Bin Bayyah is a jihadist, affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.
In 2004, his organization, the International Union of Muslim
Scholars, issued a fatwa – a Muslim religious directive – declaring that
it was the duty of Muslims to kill American soldiers in Iraq.
His organization supports suicide bombing of Israeli civilians, and its president has praised the Holocaust.
And now he's come to the White House to ask the Obama Administration to arm jihadists in Syria.
Enough is enough. We need at least 200,000 Americans to speak with
one voice. No support for jihad. No support for the Muslim
Brotherhood.
Sign the petition to sequester the Muslim Brotherhood.

By now you know that the Supreme Court struck down section 3 of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in the case United States v. Windsor.
While
this was one small step for the Supreme Court, it represents one giant
leap for make-it-up-as-you-go judicial decisions and exposes the fact
that the Supreme Court is not inoculated from the hyper-political,
cultural debate surrounding marriage.
Proponents of natural marriage feared that the Supreme Court would issue a Roe v. Wade
of marriage by declaring a constitutional right to marry someone of the
same gender and removing the debate from the political process. In some
ways, however, this case could be worse than Roe because of its incoherence.
Typically,
the Supreme Court gives a real life, legal reason for its decisions.
But in this case, the Court did what all good politicians do -- use a
large number of words to say nothing useful all in the name of getting
what you want.
Here are the legal arguments the Court didn't use to support their conclusion that DOMA is unconstitutional.
First,
the court refused to say there is a constitutional right to marry
someone of the same gender. This is significant because the primary
political argument of those wanting to redefine marriage is that
"marriage equality" is a constitutional right. Even this court
acknowledged that isn't the case, though I doubt the legal reality will
catch up with the campaigns any time soon. Why let reality get in the
way of a good slogan? Strike one.
Second,
the court did not say DOMA violates the equal protection clause of the
14th Amendment. They certainly discussed the equal protection clause
and leaned heavily on some amorphous concept of equality. However, they
refused to go down the well-worn path of equal protection analysis to
determine whether DOMA violated it because they knew that they would not
find what they were looking for-a reason to throw out DOMA. Strike
two.
Third,
the court did not say DOMA violates the Fifth Amendments due process
clause. Due process is the idea that government can't deny liberty
without due process. Much of the commentary about this case suggests
that the Fifth Amendment is the justification the Court used, but in
reality they declined to do so. The majority acknowledged the precedent
saying that due process protects substantive rights only when they are deeply rooted in our nation's history and traditions. That clearly excludes same-sex "marriage", which had never existed in any jurisdiction on the planet prior to 14 years ago.
It is the opposite of a deeply rooted substantive right. Strike three.
Fourth,
the court did not say that DOMA violates family law jurisdiction. The
opinion begins with a red herring discussion of the fact that family law
has historically (but not exclusively) been left to states. The
implication the court wanted to create is that DOMA, from its origin,
was an overreach of federal power into state matters. Yet it refuses to
strike DOMA down on that basis. Why? DOMA has never had any impact on
state family law and they know that. To the contrary, it controls only
how the federal government allocates federal money and benefits when it comes to marriage, which is clearly within Congress' power. Strike four?
So,
if there is no constitutional right to same-sex "marriage", if DOMA
doesn't violate equal protection or due process, nor does it overreach
into the state's domain of family law, then why did they decide that it
was unconstitutional for Congress to define marriage as a relationship
between a man and a woman and still allow the states to do so?
Because they wanted to.
What
is obvious in their language is that they like same-sex marriage. So in
place of legal arguments, the Court relied entirely on its belief that
their position on gay marriage is morally superior to that of Congress
circa 1996.
From
their perspective, DOMA must have been motivated by a "bare desire to
harm," or "to disparage and to injure." They further explained that its
sole purpose and effect is to "impose inequality," to deny "equal
dignity," and "humiliate."
What more of an explanation do you need, bigot?
In
the place of legal reasoning, the court effectively creates a precedent
for doing whatever it want so long as it feels justified. If you are
more interested in the outcome than respecting our separation of powers,
that's precisely what you were looking for. Lawsuits claiming state
DOMA's are unconstitutional have repeatedly failed because there is no
legal precedent to support their position. However, new legal
challenges to state DOMA's are likely to ensue and we can be sure that
those lawsuits will quote liberally from the majorities' sermon/opinion
in this case.
The
strange scenario they left us with, in which federal tax law is now
different from state to state, and where it is constitutional for a
state to define marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman but
unconstitutional for Congress to do the same, is the work of a
political body trying to reach a political outcome. The problem is,
that isn't what the Supreme Court is supposed to do.
All the while, they assure us that they were not trying to say that there is a constitutional right to same-sex "marriage".
Justice Scalia's response to this position in his dissent will close this discussion well:
"It
takes real cheek for today's majority to assure us, as it is going out
the door, that a constitutional requirement to give formal recognition
to same-sex marriage is not at issue here-when what has preceded that
assurance is a lecture on how superior the majority's moral judgment in
favor of same-sex marriage is to the Congress's hateful moral judgment
against it. I promise you this: The only thing that will "confine" the
Court's holding is its sense of what it can get away with."
Dear Pastor Killion,
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled on two marriage cases: United States v. Windsor which involved a challenge to the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Hollingsworth v. Perry, which came to the Court out of the Proposition 8 (California Marriage Amendment) litigation in California.
As a result, many have questions about the ramifications of these
rulings for marriage, family and the church as we go forward. We have
developed a FREE Bulletin Insert on the Supreme Court rulings and how the church should respond. Simply click on the link
to download, print double-sided, and distribute in your Worship Folder,
Bulletin, or at your Welcome Center or other high traffic area.
Obviously, there is a Higher Court of Appeal whom our nation's
Founders addressed as the "Supreme Judge of the World." That is the
Court before which you and I have been appointed to serve as advocates,
under the authority of our Chief Advocate, the Lord Jesus Christ.

What just happened:
Shortly before 1 p.m., 68
Senators voted for S. 744 in the all-important final cloture vote. It
needed 60 votes. This assures its final passage by the Senate (only 50
votes needed) later today. (See
who voted for cloture below.) The bad news:
If eventually signed into law, this bill would threaten to knock
millions of Americans out of the middle class by flooding their
occupations with 33 million foreign citizens who are offered lifetime
work permits over the next decade. Can you believe 68 U.S.
Senators voted for that?
The willingness of every single Democratic Senator and almost a third
of Republicans to accept the corporate lobbyists' insistence that our
country faces devastating labor shortages is disheartening to all of us
who have fought so hard to protect the 20 million Americans who can't
find a full-time job, and the millions more who have seen their real
wages declining for decades during a worker surplus. What's next, and the good news about
your efforts thus far:
Now, we must turn our full efforts to the U.S. House of
Representatives and another huge grassroots effort in July. But this will
be only a three-week fight before the month-long August recess.
There is no question that the five-month opposition that all of
you have waged is having good results in the House, where the Senate bill
is facing an increasingly hostile reception.
If the House refuses to move a giant overall amnesty, it doesn't
matter what the Senate has done.
For all of you who have spent so much of your time recently in this
fight, you need a respite. I urge you to take a bit of a breather from
activism this next week, celebrate our nation's Independence Day, enjoy
your families and friends. You've earned it.
As for today, it sure would be great if you took a moment to
make an on-line donation to re-build the C-4 activism political battle
fund for our big July House Battle!
For example, Republican Bob Corker, the Senator who rescued the S. 744
amnesty from defeat last week with a fig-leaf border control amendment,
admitted on the floor this morning that the bill is extremely unpopular
back in his state of Tennessee.
All of us at NumbersUSA thank you for everything you have done thus
far. And we thank you for all Americans who will benefit if the House
blocks the incredibly harmful provisions of S. 744.
Even if the House passes an absolutely wonderful immigration bill --
such as the enforcement legislation recently passed overwhelmingly by the
Judiciary Committee -- that would give Senate leaders the opportunity to
ask for a joint Senate/House "Conference Committee" which would
split the difference between that very good bill and the Senate monstrosity.
If a Conference compromise bill were to include an amnesty, both the
Senate and House would need to vote for it, without opportunity for
amendment. The general thinking here in Washington
is that most House Democrats would vote for the Conference
"report" bill and very likely the needed couple dozen or so
House Republicans would, too.. We must re-build our battle funds for the July fight.
Help us re-build our battle funds for the July fight.
Today, 68 Senators cast votes that will be very difficult to ever
redeem with future actions.
After all the promises of "enforcement first," these
Senators accepted an entirely "amnesty first" bill that in the
first few months would give work permits and legalization to some 11
million foreign citizens who either (a) crossed the border illegally,
most of them by paying drug cartels and many of them by helping the
cartels move drugs, or who (b) violated the promises on their vacation
and guest visas and illegally took U.S. jobs (often through identity
theft and fraud) and a share of the taxpayer-provided infrastructure. Every single Democratic Senator
voted YES to the amnesty and to the arguments of
corporate lobbyists that a nation -- with 20 million Americans unable to
find full-time jobs in a country plagued with labor shortages -- must
give out 33 million new lifetime work permits to foreign citizens over
the next decade. And these Republican Senators
voted YES to the same provisions, breaking with the
majority of their Party and all their Party leaders in the Senate:
Alexander (R-TN)
Ayotte (R-NH)
Chiesa (R-NJ)
Collins (R-ME)
Corker (R-TN)
Flake (R-AZ)
Graham (R-SC)
Hatch (R-UT)
Heller (R-NV)
Hoeven (R-ND)
Kirk (R-IL)
McCain (R-AZ)
Murkowski (R-AK)
Rubio (R-FL)
Joseph
Backholm, executive director of the Family Policy Institute of
Washington, released the following statement regarding the Supreme
Court's decision on marriage:
"The
Supreme Court got it wrong when it said that the state can tell the
federal government how it must define marriage. The federal government,
on behalf of those who elected them, should be able to recognize the
unique value of relationships that provide children a mother and
father."
"However,
those who want to redefine marriage suffered an important defeat today.
The Supreme Court refused to declare a constitutional right to same-sex
"marriage," and rejected their request to impose a redefinition of
marriage on all fifty states. This decision means that this important
debate will continue state by state across the country."
More details and analysis will follow as they become available.
You can find on-going analysis of the Supreme Court's decision by going to the following resources:
These are the people who represent you... who represent America.
How does that make you feel?
Proud?
Safe?
Personally, it makes me feel sick.
This isn't the America I know and love. This isn't the America my ancestors staked their lives for.
Today, Big Government reign is enslaving our freedoms.
It can punish you for your political affiliation...
It can listen in on your personal phone calls, read your emails, spy on your every move without court authorization...
Big Government reign decides who lives, and who dies.
It can even kill you right where you stand, without trial.
Worst of all, it's so easy to get away with.
Take another look above... think about all they've gotten away with... all the blood on their hands.
Now let me ask you one last question - will you help me do something about it?
I can't stomach our "leaders" lying through their teeth one second longer. It's time to tell Congress enough is enough!
It's time to demand that Congress impeach this pack of corrupt,
degenerate thugs, before it gets any worse. Because personally, I don't
want to see what "worse" looks like...
Let's take a stand in favor of America's restoration. The America our forefathers built.
I am well. Hope you
are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps beats working
for old man Minch by a mile. Tell them to join up quick before all of
the places are filled.
I was restless at
first because you get to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. But I am getting
so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before
breakfast is smooth your cot, and shine some things. No hogs to slop,
feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically
nothing.
Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there's warm water.
Breakfast is strong
on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of
weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other
regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city
boys that live on coffee. Their food, plus yours, holds you until
noon when you get fed again. It's no wonder these city boys can't walk
much.
We go on 'route
marches,' which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us.
If he thinks so, it's not my place to tell him different. A 'route
march' is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get
sore feet and we all ride back in trucks.
The sergeant is like a
school teacher. He nags a lot. The Captain is like the school
board. Majors and colonels just ride around and frown. They don't
bother you none.
This next will kill
Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I
don't know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and
don't move, and it ain't shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home.
All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You don't
even load your own cartridges They come in boxes.
Then we have what
they call hand-to-hand combat training. You get to wrestle with them
city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy. It
ain't like fighting with that ole bull at home. I'm about the best they
got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over in Silver Lake . I
only beat him once.. He joined up the same time as me, but I'm only
5'6' and 130 pounds and he's 6'8' and near 300 pounds dry.
Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.
S. 744 MOVING FORWARD THIS
WEEK AS GOP FAILS TO BLOCK
CORKER-HOEVEN 'FIG LEAF'
15 Republicans Vote WITH Reid Advance Fake Border Security
FOUR DIDN'T VOTE AT ALL!
DEMAND NO ON CLOTURE, NO ON S. 744!
At
5:30 p.m. yesterday, the Obama Democrat-controlled Senate VOTED to END
DEBATE on Gang of Eight Amnesty Hoeven-Corker Amendment S. 744 with NO
ONE having READ the 1200-PAGE BILL! If not stopped, S. 744 will destroy
self-governing America with an influx of more foreign labor during
record high unemployment and forgiveness of 12 million lawbreakers – all
while NOT securing our sovereign borders but instead establishing a
permanent globalist, progressive majority!
The Hoeven-Corker "fool the voter" border security amendment
to the contentious immigration bill cleared a procedural hurdle when the
Senate voted 67 to 27 on Monday night to invoke cloture, end debate and
move the amendment forward. This sets up the Hoeven-Corker amendment
for a pass-fail vote later in the week. Now we're hearing that Harry Reid is going to force the next
vote to adopt the amendment, and another to invoke cloture on the whole
bill – TO GET S. 744 TO THE FLOOR FOR A SIMPLE MAJORITY VOTE – THIS WEEK
in order to meet his July 4th deadline for handing S. 744 over to RAM
THROUGH the House! With more votes expected as early as TOMORROW, we must use
TODAY to reprimand and RALLY THE GOP and even moderate Democrats and
Independents to REJECT S.744 AND SAVE AMERICAN SOVEREIGNTY!
This Sunday, June 30th, is the 5th annual observance of the Call2Fall,
which is based on God's "call to fall" in humble, repentant prayer in 2
Chronicles 7:14. Nearly 1.6 million believers from thousands of
churches in all 50 states will spend at least 5 minutes on our knees in
prayer for our nation. The website has many FREE tools and resources for pastors and church leaders, including Sermon Starters, Bulletin Insert, PowerPoint announcements, videos, etc.
Please help us get the word out during these last days before June
30th. Download the short video clips and share them with your church.
Pass them on to pastors and prayer leaders you know have a heart to see
America turn to God in prayer. Share the links with your Facebook
friends and point them to Call2Fall's Website and Facebook page.
Watch our short video about the first prayer in the Continental Congress.
At another desperate time in our nation's history, that pastor-led
prayer moved many of our Founding Fathers to their knees and even to
tears. Like these great men, my prayer is that we will declare our
dependence upon God--even as we celebrate our independence. .
Please join us by setting aside just a few minutes in your worship
services this Sunday and lead your congregation in prayer -- all who are
able on their knees -- to cry out to God for our nation. And it is
appropriate for us to do it on the Sunday before the Fourth of July,
before we break out the picnic gear, fire up the grill, and light the
fireworks to celebrate our nation's birthday.
Again, visit www.call2fall.com to sign up your church.
By joining us, believers in your community who are looking for a
participating church can find you. As we unite our hearts and cry out to
God, He will hear our prayers and respond.

Our Side is Hammering Amnesty Supporters on Calls, Faxes, E-mails.
Dear
Larry
Killion,
Congratulations and thank you! We're completely drowning amnesty supporters! When it comes to making phone calls to Congress, sending faxes and writing e-mails, there's no competition.
I
thank you with all my heart for everything you've done -- phone calls,
faxes, donations, meetings. It's balanced $$ Billions spent by the other
side. I know that many of you have spent hundreds of hours to defeat
this monstrosity.
As great as the impact we're having, let me be perfectly frank with you: we cannot cross the finish line in this battle without a thunderous outpouring of donations, today.
Our
side is fully charged for battle, because we're not fighting for
special interests or cheap labor, like they are. We're fighting for the
future of America and American workers. And the Senate is taking
notice! Just read what the chairman of the Senate Republican Conference
had to say:
"If you listen to the calls, the e-mails are offices are getting right now, the bombardment is pretty one-sided."
--Senator John Thune,
"GOP Support for Immigration Dissipating," Politico
Did you catch the name of that article? "GOP Support for Immigration Dissipating." See, you are
having an effect on Washington! The pro-amnesty crowd may have hundreds
of millions of dollars and an army of lobbyists, but we have the
overwhelming support of the American people, and we're letting Congress
know it.
Amnesty Proponents Play More Tricks.
Now,
amnesty proponents know they have to shake up the game. The latest
trick is an amendment by Sens. Corker (R-TN) and Hoeven (R-SD). The amendment solves nothing; the amnesty will still come before enforcement. It's simply a ruse to give the impression that the bill has changed since all of your calls and faxes were sent.
We now expect a vote on the Corker-Hoeven amendment on Monday and a final vote on Thursday. Both need 60 votes for passage.
Before Thursday's vote, we need all our members to call their senators
and tell them you still oppose amnesty before enforcement!
AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THIS TRAITOR BOYCOTT THIS MOVIE What a disgrace to Mrs. Nancy Reagan!
Boycott this movie! America
we must not forget JANE FONDA as NANCY REAGAN?
This
cannot go around too much. Those of us that were living in those years
will never forget that she was a traitor and did a lot of damage to our
boys. She has now been chosen to play Nancy Reagan in her life story.
I am sending this one out because so many do not know this truth...and also because she was on 3 times this week
talking about her new book...
And how good she feels in her 70's.
She still does not knowwhat she did wrong.
Her book just may not make the best seller list
if more people knew... also... Barbara Walters said: Thank you all. Many died in Vietnam for our freedoms.
I did not like Jane Fonda then and I don't like her now. She can lead her present life the way she wants and perhaps SHE can forget the past,
but we DO NOT have to stand by without comment and see her "honored" as a
"Woman of the Century."
(I remember this well) For those who served and/or died.... NEVER FORGIVE A TRAITOR. SHE REALLY WAS A TRAITOR!! and now President OBAMA wants to honor her......!!!! In Memory of Lt. C. Thomsen Wieland who spent 100 days at the Hanoi Hilton [Famous North Vietnam Prison] IF YOU NEVER FORWARDED ANYTHING IN YOUR LIFE PLEASE FORWARD THIS SO THAT EVERYONE WILL KNOW!!!!!! A TRAITOR IS ABOUT TO BE HONORED. KEEP THIS MOVING ACROSS AMERICA This is for all the kids born in the 70's and after who do not know and didn't have to bear the burden that our fathers, mothers and older brothers and sisters had to bear.
Jane Fonda is being honored as one of the '100
Women of the Century.' BARBARA WALTERS WRITES: Unfortunately, many have forgotten and still countless others have never known how Ms. Fonda betrayed not only the idea of our country, but specific men who served and sacrificed during the Vietnam War. The first part of this is from an F-4E pilot. The pilot's name is Jerry Driscoll, a River Rat.
In 1968, the former Commandant of the USAF Survival School was a POW in Ho Lo Prison the 'Hanoi Hilton.' Dragged from a stinking cesspit of a cell, cleaned, fed, and dressed in clean PJ's, he was ordered to describe for a visiting American 'Peace Activist' the 'lenient and humane treatment' he'd received. He spat at Ms. Fonda, was clubbed, and was dragged away. During the subsequent beating, he fell forward on to the camp Commandant 's feet, which sent that officer berserk. In
1978, the Air Force Colonel still suffered from double vision (which
permanently ended his flying career) from the Commandant's frenzied
application of a wooden baton. From 1963-65, Col. Larry Carrigan was in the 47FW/DO (F-4E's). He spent 6 years in the 'Hanoi Hilton'...the first three of which his family only knew he was 'missing in action'. His
wife lived on faith that he was still alive. His group, too, got the
cleaned-up, fed and clothed treatment in preparation for a 'peace
delegation' visit. They, however, had time and devised a plan to get word to the world that they were alive and still survived. Each man secreted
a tiny piece of paper, with his Social Security Number on it, in the
palm of his hand. When paraded before Ms. Fonda and a cameraman, she
walked the line, shaking each man's hand and asking little encouraging snippets like: 'Aren't you sorry you bombed babies?' and 'Are you grateful for the humane treatment from your benevolent captors?' Believing
this HAD to be an act, they each palmed her their sliver of paper. She
took them all without missing a beat...At the end of the line and once
the camera stopped rolling, to the shocked disbelief of the POW's she
turned to the officer in charge and handed him all the little pieces of
paper...Three men died from the subsequent beatings. Colonel Carrigan was almost number four but he survived, which is the only reason we know of her actions that day. I
was a civilian economic development adviser in Vietnam, and was
captured by the North Vietnamese communists in South Vietnam in 1968,
and held prisoner for over 5 years. I spent 27 months in solitary confinement; one year in a cage in Cambodia; and one year in a 'black box' in Hanoi.
My North Vietnamese captors deliberately poisoned and murdered a female
missionary, a nurse in a leprosarium in Banme Thuot, South Vietnam,
whom I buried in the jungle near the Cambodian border. At one time, I weighed only about 90 lbs. (My normal weight is 170 lbs). We were Jane Fonda's 'war criminals...' When
Jane Fonda was in Hanoi, I was asked by the camp communist political
officer if I would be willing to meet with her. I said yes, for I wanted
to tell her about the real treatment we POWs received...and how
different it was from the treatment purported by the North Vietnamese,
and parroted by her as 'humane and lenient.' Because
of this, I spent three days on a rocky floor on my knees, with my arms
outstretched with a large steel weight placed on my hands, and beaten
with a bamboo cane. I
