Glen Tweet Memorial

Good services yesterday.  Things went well last Thursday for the Memorial Service at Lakewood Baptist Temple in Lakewood Washington in honor of Elder Glen L. Tweet and at the Friday morning internment where his mortal remains were laid to rest with grace and dignity.  The following is an outline of the services and some pictures of the Military honors given at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.  Brother Tweet's grandson, Kevin, was in his Marine dress blues and was privileged to present the flag to his grandmother.  It was very moving. Scroll down for the pictures.

A Man of God

1 Sam 9:6  And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can shew us our way that we should go.

Thank you everyone for coming today to celebrate the life of Elder Glen L. Tweet.  He was a man of God indeed.  Thank you to the Tabernacle Baptist Temple for the use of your facilities today.  Thank you to all the medical staff and hospice workers who ministered to Brother Tweet in his last days and hours.  Thank you for the prayers of friends and for the words of comfort given in the early hours of bereavement.   God’s grace is sufficient.

For many years, if I knew of anyone going to Seattle, Washington, I could tell them – There is a man of God in this city.  He preaches the truth of God and he can show you the right way to go.  He was Elder Glen L. Tweet.

Brother Tweet was my Pastor.  I will always think of him in that way.  He taught me the Doctrine of Grace and the Old Landmark truth on the Church that Jesus Built.  I remember asking him one time why there were not more men preaching the truth that he preached and he simply said, “Pray the Lord of the harvest that He would send forth laborers.”  So, I began to pray.  Not long after that, the Lord called me, and several others in the congregation, into the ministry.  A verse of scripture that Brother Tweet used frequently in his preaching was Jude 3, Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Brother Tweet was an honorable man and a great prayer warrior.  I loved to hear him pray and to hear him preach on prayer and evangelism.  He was one of the most zealous soul winners I ever knew.  He always had a gospel tract with him and constantly looked for opportunities to talk to someone about the Lord.  Another verse I must have heard him quote a hundred times was Ps.126:5-6, They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. That being said, I feel compelled to tell you what I believe Brother Tweet would tell you today if he were standing in this place.

The Bible says that it is appointed unto men once to die and after this the judgment.  Heb 9:27.  There is a judgment for the just and a judgment for the unjust. The Saved will be rewarded for their faithful service at the Judgment Seat of Christ.  Rom 14:10. The unsaved will receive their due reward at the Great White Throne judgment.  Rev 20:11-15.

The difference between being saved and not being saved is found in the Gospel.  Rom 1:16  Paul wrote to Timothy under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit about how the Gospel is worthy to be heard.  This is a faithful saying.   1Tim 1:15.  He also gave one of the clearest descriptions of what the Gospel is all about in 1Cor 15:1-4.

Funerals and Memorial Services are always a good time for us to look into our own hearts and examine ourselves, and consider the question:  How do I stand with God?  Are you lost in sin?  On the other hand, have you by faith, trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior?  The Bible says in Jn 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

I urge you now to repent and believe the gospel.  Today is the day of salvation.  The doors of grace are still open.  Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.  You can do that and you can have that, God being your helper, right where you are, here and now.  When Jesus saves, He saves to the uttermost.  There is great assurance in knowing Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.  1Jn.5:10- 13.    He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

God add His blessing to His word.  We appreciate the help of the Edwards Memorial Center.  They can help you with questions you might have about a reception and the graveside services tomorrow morning at 10AM at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.

Internment

We are gathered here today to lay at rest the mortal remains of our dearly departed Brother in Christ, Elder Glen L. Tweet.  He will be greatly missed by those of us that are left behind but as Christians, we do not sorrow, as do those who have no hope in Christ.  We know and believe that for the believer, to die is gain and to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

As we prepare for the internment let us remember that God created man in an upright condition but man unmade himself by transgressing Gods law.  Rom 5:12, Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Rom.3:23, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; and Rom.6:23, For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. The only remedy for our sin problem is Jesus Christ.  Lk19:10, For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Matt 1:21, And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Jn 3:16, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Jn.17:3, And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

The Bible asks the age-old question:  If a man die, shall he live again?  Job14:14.

God’s word also gives us the answer to the question.  Job 19:25   For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:  and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:  Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another…

The New Testament story of the resurrection of Lazarus in John chapter eleven reminds us that the Son of God has power to raise the dead.  In fact, Christ is the resurrection.

Let the Military detail give the honors now.  For the closing benediction, let us pray.

Heavenly Father, Thank you for the gift of life.  Thank you for the fond memories we have of our loved ones who have passed away.  More than anything else, thank you Father for the gift of spiritual life through your Son and His saving Gospel.  We come into this world with nothing and we leave the world the same way.  You formed us from the dust of the ground and it is back to the earth that our bodies go in death until the resurrection.  Dust goes to dust and ashes to ashes.  The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.  AMEN.

Sons Ted, Dave, John, Jim, Tim and Lonnie were the poll bearers.  Daughter Karen was honorary poll bearer.

                                                            Salute
Sister Tweet capped of the ceremonies by asking if she could say something and told the humorous story of a man who was reading the inscriptions of the grave markers in a cemetery one day.  He found one that said.... Pause dear stranger as you pass me by... As your are now, so once was I.  As I am now, so you will be.  So, prepare for death, and follow me.                                           The man thought about the inscription for a moment and then scratched in the following response.                                                                                                                                                 To follow you, I am not content - until I know - where you went.
