My
Common Core Pledge
We the undersigned oppose the call for a nationalized
curriculum in our public schools. We
oppose ongoing effort to install Common Core curriculum by federally funded
agencies and think all such agencies should cease. We oppose a centrally controlled curriculum
for every K-12 student but support the use of curriculum approved at the local
school board and family level only.
We agree that expectations for all children should be high
and similar. We do not agree that one
size fits all. We believe the best educational
material comes before student
assessments develop, not the other way around.
We are committed to improving our countries schools starting in our
homes and at the local community level.
We believe the notion of one national curriculum is
wrongheaded for the following reasons.
1. It is not the law of the land
as propaganda from global elitists imply.
There is no constitutional or statutory basis for it. If this concept
were actually right, we still oppose curriculum concocted by a self-selected
group behind closed doors with no accountability to the public. 2. No
consistent evidence shows that the common core curriculum leads to high
academic achievement. 3. The national
standards used to form the common core curriculum are inadequate and their
definition of “college readiness” is below the requirements of most four-year
State colleges. 4. There is no body of
evidence for a “best” design for curriculum in any subject. In fact, if all students used only one curriculum,
having no other choice, we could not know what is best. 5. We
lack all justifiable evidence that only one guideline for all public education
is right. There are too many variables
and needs among our children to allow big government to constrain the diversity
of material used in their educational growth.
