Press Release: $35 Gift Puts Dr. Ben Carson
Draft Committee Over the $1 Million Mark

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 3, 2013

Washington, DC - John Philip Sousa, IV announced today that the fundraising program of the National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee has topped the $1 million mark. “We are extremely pleased with the unprecedented outpouring of support for Dr. Benjamin Carson for President.  Even though the 2016 Presidential election is nearly three years away, Americans from every state in the nation are generously donating to this important campaign.  It is both humbling and inspiring.”

It was a $35 gift from Mrs. Charlene Worden of Round Pond, Maine that put the fund raising campaign of the National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee over $1 million.  When Vernon Robinson, Campaign Director of the Draft Committee called Mrs. Worden, she said, “I am proud to support drafting Dr. Ben Carson as the next President of the United States and my husband supports him as well.  Dr. Carson is a good man and he is exactly what our nation needs at this time.”

When told of Mrs. Worden’s response, Mr. Sousa said, “We are extremely thankful for Mrs. Worden and the tens of thousands of Americans who have already donated to this draft effort.  This is a bottom up, grassroots effort that has clearly touched a chord with Americans from coast to coast and border to border.”

“In fact,” said, Sousa, “our fund raising efforts have just begun.  Our intent is to make absolutely certain that Dr. Carson will be able to compete with any other Republican candidate and with Hillary Clinton.  While we are relying primarily on direct mail and Internet fund raising in this early stage, we are gearing up to engage other fund raising channels in the near future.”

Sousa believes that, “The strength of this effort rests solely with Dr. Ben Carson.  More than 200,000 Americans have signed petitions urging him to run for President in 2016.  They want a man of principle and character as their nominee who can get this nation back on track to prosperity and who will restore respect around the globe.  They want someone who will speak clearly and honestly to the American people, uniting us, not dividing us.  It is clear that they see Dr. Carson as the right man at the right place at the right time to return leadership and integrity to the White House.”

“They are also supporting Dr. Carson because they understand that it is quite likely that he alone can defeat Hillary Clinton or any other Democratic nominee for President.  His ability to appeal across racial, ethnic, gender, age, and economic lines makes him the one Republican nominee sure to win in 2016.”  said Sousa.

With the help of a sophisticated software platform, a grassroots organization is being built across the United States by the National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee.  The Committee is putting a special focus on Iowa and the early primary states.  The “Clamorings” sent in by petition signers will soon be sent to Dr. Ben Carson, allowing him to see firsthand the outpouring of support from Americans across the nation urging him to run for President of the United States.
