More Taxes

Friends,

Something happened yesterday that we think you should be aware of. Governor Jay Inslee channeled President Obama by signing an executive order to create a carbon tax task force under the guise of lowering carbon emissions. This is Governor Inslee’s first step in implementing a carbon tax — a gas tax that could reach $1.17 per gallon.

David Roberts of Grist magazine (an environmental rag) believes Inslee will have to use executive orders to get his way, which he has just shown he is willing to do. Roberts says, "He wants to act, but he's got no Republicans in the legislature on his side, soif he gets anything done, it's going to be through executive powers."

The task force Inslee just created by executive decree is filled with his political allies and industries that will financially benefit from a carbon tax. They are a bunch of second-string puppets Inslee can hide behind while acting as first-string puppet for the “green” agenda of Tom Steyer — the liberal billionaire that is pumping millions of dollars into our state to elect environmental extremists.

We put together the “Inslee Increase” calculator so you can estimate how much Inslee’s radical agenda will cost your family.

Together, we can make sure our family, friends and all Washingtonians are educated so Inslee doesn’t hurt us with a massive gas tax increase.

We need you to do 3 simple things:
  1. Calculate the Inslee Increase for your family
  2. Share the calculator on Facebook
  3. Forward this email
We need to spread the word so that others know the burden Inslee will put on our families.

Thank you,

The Shift Team

There's a policy that's been very effective at deterring tax and fee increases for the past 7 years -- and this week, Inslee moved forward on a sneaky, underhanded effort to take that policy away.

With your help right now, we can stop HIS SNEAK ATTACK.

Approved by voters in 2007, Initiative 960 not only required a 2/3 vote for any tax increase, it also put every tax and fee increase bill under the brightest spotlight imaginable. It requires the state budget office (now controlled by Inslee) to identify any revenue-raising bill and calculate how much it's going to cost taxpayers over the next 10 years. And it requires Inslee to send out an email update to every citizen who signs up that notifies them when a revenue-raising bill is introduced, when a hearing is scheduled, when it's approved in committee and in the House and Senate, and when it's signed into law.

In other words, it creates an easy-to-use public notification system to track ALL bills that raise taxes or fees. MOST IMPORTANTLY, each email sent out includes the names of the legislators sponsoring and voting for the bills, as well as their email addresses and phone numbers.

Tax-hiking politicians don't like it one bit: "It is getting in the way of open consideration of ideas," said Rep. Maralyn Chase, D-Shoreline, who sponsored a bill that would tax greenhouse gas emissions (the bill would cost more than $26 billion over 10 years). "It is getting in the way of taking care of the business of our state. ... You would not believe the vitriol that has come in on my telephone today," said Chase, who added lawmakers will be reluctant to have their names associated with any bill that would trigger I-960 notification.

Inslee is gonna go hog wild raising taxes next year and so that's why he's trying to take it away. There are two easy things you can do right now to stop him:

1) Sign up for I-960's tax and fee increase email alert system -- IT'S SUPER EASY, just type in your name, your email address, and click on the box marked: Subscribe (TAX-AND-FEE-PROPOSALS): http://listserv.wa.gov/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=TAX-AND-FEE-PROPOSALS&A=1

2) Fill out the short "survey" that Inslee's office sent out this week and make sure to tell them you strongly support every aspect of the law. Answer each question with the highest rating. When they ask how to improve the system, type: " Complete the cost projections faster so that we know how much the tax and fee increase bills are gonna cost BEFORE they have hearings and votes". Here's the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Tax_and_Fee_Notices_Customer_Survey

We're asking you to do two easy things: sign up and fill out the survey (OK, make it three things: forward this email to others).

Inslee is trying to clear the decks for tax and fee increases next year. But with your help, we can stop him.
