A Moment of Silence For Those We've Lost... BY TIM SCHMIDT - USCCA FOUNDER | |
My message today is simple : I want to urge you to observe a moment of silence this Memorial Day in honor of the brave men and women who died while serving in the United States military. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, this "National Moment of Remembrance" encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation. Think about it: one minute of silence on one day every year to remember and thank the hundreds of thousands of service men and women who have given everything in the name of freedom. I know, one minute of silence one day every year just doesn't seem like enough. Because you know as well as I do that these brave individuals fight every day. And die every day. There is no on/off switch for those who are vigilantly fighting to preserve the freedoms you and I hold dear. And so I urge you to do more: to fight every day, in whatever way you can. And keep the spirit of Memorial Day in your heart always. This Monday, at 3 p.m. local time, I plan to observe a moment of silence in honor of our fallen heroes. I hope you do the same. And after you observe that silence, I hope you share stories of the ones you've loved and lost: about who they were. What they believed. What they stood for. As you're spending time off with family and friends, as you're enjoying a picnic or heading out to the ballgame, as you're sitting around the campfire, tell everyone about the difference these men and women have made: about how they refused to give up. How they refused to give in. How they made the ultimate sacrifice. That kind of sacrifice was meant to be shared. God bless our troops. God bless America!
Take Care and Stay Safe,
Tim Schmidt
