To:  Our thousands of supporters throughout the state (cc'd to the media, house & senate members, and Governor)

In recent years, we've worked really hard to stop bad bills in Olympia.  We've certainly learned that it's certainly easier to prevent a bad bill from becoming law than it is to overturn a bad law.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

We lobbied hard against numerous tax and fee increase bills this year, but where we really shined was the obliteration and destruction of House Bill 2552, the Democrats' horrible anti-initiative bill.  It would have required citizens, before collecting voter signatures on petitions, to first be registered by the government, licensed by the government, trained by the government, and be subjected to criminal background checks.  Only after surviving that gauntlet would a basic First Amendment right be allowed to be exercised.

After that horrible bill passed the House, we asked all of you to express yourself to legislators who voted for it.  You pulverized them!  Emails, phone calls, one-on-one confrontations.  It was citizen activism at its finest.

By the time you were done, that broken, bloodied, battered bill was fatally wounded thanks to all of you.

Senator Pam Roach (R-Auburn) put the final nail in the coffin, killing the bill as chair of the senate committee.  For that public service, we named her "Legislator of the Year" (FYI - Pam's opponent for re-election -- Cathy Dahlquist -- joined the Democrats in voting "yes" on that horrible bill -- what a traitor!).

We worked really hard this year fighting bad bills.  And so, it's important to remember and celebrate our greatest victory of all:  the decimation of House Bill 2552.

Thank you for helping protect the people's initiative process.

Working together, no one defends taxpayers and initiative process more effectively than we do.

        Thank you.

Sincerely,
Tim Eyman, Jack Fagan, & Mike Fagan,
