More TAXES

Prepare for a tidal wave of tax increases in WA State coming 
next year.  You can just feel it.

        In 2007, voters passed our Initiative 960, making it tougher to raise taxes.  In 2008 and 2009, there wasn't a single tax increase.  In 2010, Olympia took away the 2/3 and went bonkers, raising taxes $7.1 billion.  So in 2010, we renewed the 2/3 vote requirement and in 2011 and 2012, there were minimal tax increases.  In 2012, we renewed the 2/3 again and in 2013 and 2014, there were minimal tax increases again.

        So for the past 4 years (2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014), Olympia has been kept on a short leash.  That's good.  But the "bad guys" -- powerful special interests that feed off of higher taxes -- have been cut-off for 4 years.  They're starving.

        Politicians like to hide.  They like to skulk in the shadows.  They like to sneak up on you.  There are 3000 bills pushed every legislative session.  Our Initiative 960 forces the state budget office to identify bills raising taxes or fees.  It forces them to analyze them and calculate how much the bill is going to cost taxpayers.  It forces them to send out an email whenever a tax/fee increase bill moves forward (when the bill is introduced, when there's a public hearing, and when the bill passes in committee or in either chamber).  And it identifies which legislators are sponsoring them and voting for them.   

         It essentially puts a GPS tracking device on any tax and fee increase bill.

        The more folks who sign up, the greater the impact, the greater the deterrent effect.
