Carson on 2nd Amendment

Ben Carson Just Said Something HUGE The Pro-Gun Crowd Is Going To LOVE

Last week, prior to traveling to Iowa for a fundraiser, Dr. Ben Carson clarified the remarks he made during an appearance on the Glenn Beck show in 2013, where he spoke about gun control. Those prior statements led many to believe that he opposed people owning certain types of weapons, such as semiautomatics, and that he didn’t truly support the Second Amendment, but it turns out that’s really not the case.

For those unfamiliar, below is a clip of when Dr. Carson appeared on the Glenn Beck program last year:

While the above clip stopped 2A supporters cold and caused an immediate aversion to Carson as a presidential candidate, it seems Carson either misspoke or was misunderstood in his stance on gun control, as he’s spoken out in an attempt to clarify and is sending a much different message.

According to Bloomberg News, Carson participated in a conference call last Wednesday and clarified his stance on gun control and the Second Amendment, saying that he should have elaborated more when speaking with Beck and explained what he meant in more detail.

“There seemed to be group of people—I don’t know exactly who they are—who seize upon one part of something that I said,” Carson stated on the call. “Sometimes people just hear one little thing, and they don’t hear anything else.”

He continued, explaining how he truly feels about the Second Amendment and why he made the ambiguous statements to Beck.
“Perhaps I didn’t convey it appropriately,” he said. “I wanted to convey that, you know, I’ve lived in urban areas. I’ve worked in urban areas. I’ve seen a lot of carnage, and I’d prefer a situation where the kinds of weapons that create that kind of carnage don’t fall to the hands of criminal elements or insane people. But that is secondary to the desire to always defend the Second Amendment.”
Carson stood strong in his belief that the government or bureaucrats shouldn’t be allowed to take “law-abiding citizen’s rights for any kind of weapon that they want to protect themselves,” saying “under no circumstances” would he allow such to happen if he were president. He also elaborated and said that he would allow people to own any kind of weapon that’s legally available, including “automatic weapons and semi-automatic weapons.”

He stopped short of saying that convicted felons should be allowed to own firearms after serving their time, adding the caveat that if they’re “still considered a danger to society,” they should probably still be in prison and not on the streets. Like most in the pro-gun crowd, he also doesn’t think that a “mental patient” or people with a “history of violence” should be able to own anything capable of wreaking havoc on society.
Another important point that he made was that the government shouldn’t be able to “retrospectively” make guns that were once-legal illegal, such as AR-15s or other semiautomatic rifles.

As we bear down on 2016, the likelihood that Carson will make a presidential run continues to increase as he’s receiving tremendous support among conservatives across America. With his latest statements on the Second Amendment, that support will only increase as many who were leery of his previous statements are given the clarity needed to know where he truly stands.

I would vote for the good doctor in a heartbeat. He’s an esteemed neurosurgeon with common sense and good values, which would be a much welcomed change from the community agitator in office now.
