Dear Larry,
My first trip to Israel will
soon come to a close. It’s been a fascinating experience that I will
never forget.
Through my conversations with
military and government officials, as well as touring the tunnels
through which terrorists have traveled to attack Israel, I’ve been
reminded of
the high cost of freedom, and standing up for one’s values.
In a region where democratic ideals are sorely lacking,
Israel has been a beacon of hope, freedom and prosperity because
generations
of courageous Israelis have fought to keep it that way.
In light of the ongoing cyber-attacks in Hollywood, this is a lesson America must heed.
We live in a
dangerous world, and we can only defeat bullies by standing up to them. We should never cower or censor ourselves
because of the threats of third-world dictators and cyber-terrorists.
Freedom of speech and freedom of expression mean something, and we should stand up for them.
Israel is prosperous and free in part because Israel has had the moral
courage to be strong. As we face our own threats in America, we must show the same resolve.
Thank you for
your ongoing support as together we work to build a stronger and more prosperous America for all of our citizens.
Sincerely, Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D.
