BARRONELLE STUTZMAN
& ARLENE'S FLOWERS
SUMMARY: Arlene's
Flowers and its owner, Barronelle Stutzman, is being sued by the
Washington State Attorney General for violating Washington State's
non-discrimination law when she declined to provide floral services for a
long-time customer.
STATUS: In
a decision that has significant implications for business owners who
hold the historic view on issues of marriage and sexuality, a Benton
County Superior Court Judge ruled on Wednesday that it is illegal to
refer business for same-sex ceremonies if you are willing to provide
business for any wedding. As a result, both the business and personal assets of Barronelle Stutzman are at risk of state seizure. Read more about the judges decision.
|
It is critical that you demonstrate to our Washington State Government that Barronelle Stutzman is not alone. The legislature can solve this problem quickly if they are compelled to do so. Have your friends do the same.
Please call your legislators TODAY at 1-800-562-6000. Tell them to act to protect religious freedom.
Call Attorney General Bob Ferguson at 360-753-6200. Tell him to support the Washington State Constitution
that protects "[a]bsolute freedom of conscience in all matters of
religious sentiment, belief and worship, shall be guaranteed to every
individual...."

OPPOSE
Concerning
exemptions from immunizations for
school-age children.
SUMMARY: HB 2009 would eliminate the "personal conviction" exemption from the immunization requirement. Read HB 2009.
STATUS: HB 2009 - 2/20/2015, Executive action taken in the House Health Care & Wellness Committee; passed to Rules Committee for Second Reading.
|
Tell your Legislators to OPPOSE HB 2009, because parents have the right to decide what is in the best interest of their own children.

RELIGIOUS FREEDOM / PARENTAL RIGHTS
|
OPPOSE
Prohibiting the use
of aversion therapy
in the treatment
of minors.
SUMMARY: Substitute Senate Bill 2870
protects children from physical aversive therapies. This substitute
bill, unlike the original bill, does protect the rights of free speech
and allows licensed therapists to work with minors dealing with unwanted
same-sex attractions, but only if the minor agreed that they wanted it, and it was in the best interest of the minor to get the therapy. Read SSB 5870.
STATUS: SSB 5870 - 2/20/2015, 1st Substitute Bill to be substituted; do pass majority.
HB 1972 is still on our watch list as it says minors
can not receive help from the therapist, even if the minor and the
parents of the minor agreed that they wanted it, and it was in the best
interest of the minor to get the therapy. No further action, since 2/4/15. Read HB 1972.
|
Tell your legislators to
OPPOSE
HB 1972, because
banning this therapy denies the reality that many people have changed
their sexual orientation, and this bill puts the state legislature in
the middle of a relationship between a therapist, a client, and their
parents.

PARENTAL RIGHTS / PRO-LIFE
|
SUPPORT
Requiring notification to parents or guardians in cases of abortion.
SUMMARY: Protects
minors against their own immaturity by also protecting the
constitutional rights of parents to rear and make decisions for their
children who are members of their household. Read the bills SB 5289 & HB 1493 here.
|
Tell your legislators to
because daughters need the protection of their parents.
|
RELIGIOUS FREEDOM / PRO-LIFE
|
OPPOSE
Concerning health plan coverage of reproductive health care.
SUMMARY: It
requires every insurance policy to cover every form of contraception,
abortion, and sterilization and forbids the policy from charging a
deductible or copay. Read SB 5574 & HB 1647 here.
SB 5574 - No further action, as of 2/23/15. Referred to Senate Health Care Committee on 1/26/15.
|
Tell your Legislators to OPPOSE SB 5574 & HB 1647, because this mandate is necessary and it would violate your right to conscience and threaten your religious freedoms.

PRO-LIFE / PARENTAL RIGHTS
|
CONDITIONAL SUPPORT
Concerning telemedicine.
SUMMARY: The language in SB 5175 and HB 1403 have been modified to not allow webcam chemical abortions. We want the language to stay the same and not be changed. Both the Senate and the House had public hearings on these bills. Read the Substitute Senate Bill Report.
HB 1403 - No further action since 2/5/15.
|
Tell your Legislators to SUPPORT SSB 5175, regarding telemedicine, as long as the language stays the same and as it does not allow webcam chemical abortions.
|
SUPPORT
Concerning informed decision making for death with dignity decisions.
SUMMARY: Amends
the current Death with Dignity (or assisted suicide) RCWs (laws) to
make sure the patient has been given ALL feasible alternatives before
they choose suicide. Specifically, this bill emphasizes that the
physician will discuss treatments for extending the patient's life and
treatments that would cure the disease. Read the bill.
|
Tell your Legislators to SUPPORT SB 5919, because patients deserve the dignity of knowing all their options when making critical life and death decisions.
|
PRO-LIFE: PROTECTION OF CHILDREN
|
SUPPORT
Establishing the
Washington Internet
crimes against
children account.
SUMMARY: Creates
the Washington internet crimes against children account and requires
expenditures from the account to be used exclusively by the Washington
internet crimes against children task force and its affiliate agencies. Read the bill.
|
Tell your Legislators to SUPPORT SSB 5215 so
state and local law enforcement agencies have the resources they need
to develop an effective response to technology being used to facilitate
child sexual exploitation and internet crimes against children.
