BARRONELLE STUTZMAN
& ARLENE'S FLOWERS

SUMMARY: Arlene's Flowers and its owner, Barronelle Stutzman, is being sued by the Washington State Attorney General for violating Washington State's non-discrimination law when she declined to provide floral services for a long-time customer.

STATUS: In a decision that has significant implications for business owners who hold the historic view on issues of marriage and sexuality, a Benton County Superior Court Judge ruled on Wednesday that it is illegal to refer business for same-sex ceremonies if you are willing to provide business for any wedding. As a result, both the business and personal assets of Barronelle Stutzman are at risk of state seizure. Read more about the judges decision.
ACTION
It is critical that you demonstrate to our Washington State Government that Barronelle Stutzman is not alone. The legislature can solve this problem quickly if they are compelled to do so. Have your friends do the same.

Please call your legislators TODAY at 1-800-562-6000. Tell them to act to protect religious freedom.

Use the Legislative Phone Directory to contact your lawmakers' offices directly. You can also email them by using the FPIW email form or go to the Legislative Email Directory to find your lawmakers' individual email addresses.

Call Attorney General Bob Ferguson at 360-753-6200. Tell him to support the Washington State Constitution that protects "[a]bsolute freedom of conscience in all matters of religious sentiment, belief and worship, shall be guaranteed to every individual...."

Senate Bill 5870 Prime Sponsor: Senator Marko Liias, 21st LD
Senate Committee: Health Care
House Bill 1972 Prime Sponsor: Rep. Laurie Jinkins, 27th LD

SUMMARY: Substitute Senate Bill 2870 protects children from physical aversive therapies. This substitute bill, unlike the original bill, does protect the rights of free speech and allows licensed therapists to work with minors dealing with unwanted same-sex attractions, but only if the minor agreed that they wanted it, and it was in the best interest of the minor to get the therapy. Read SSB 5870.

STATUS: SSB 5870 - 2/20/2015, 1st Substitute Bill to be substituted; do pass majority.

HB 1972 is still on our watch list as it says minors can not receive help from the therapist, even if the minor and the parents of the minor agreed that they wanted it, and it was in the best interest of the minor to get the therapy. No further action, since 2/4/15. Read HB 1972.

Tell your legislators to

 HB 1972
because banning this therapy denies the reality that many people have changed their sexual orientation, and this bill puts the state legislature in the middle of a relationship between a therapist, a client, and their parents.
