Freedom - USCCA

Let Freedom Ring!
BY TIM SCHMIDT - USCCA FOUNDER

Tomorrow marks another birthday celebration for our country. And no matter what you prefer to call it—July 4th, the Fourth of July, Independence Day (or, as I’ve grown fond of calling it, Independence from British Tyranny Day)—I think there’s one thing we can all agree on:

It’s all about freedom.

I can’t help but be proud of America and the freedoms she provides. Sure, our country isn’t perfect, and our citizens aren’t perfect either. We’ve definitely seen our fair share of ups and downs over a few centuries of growth. But we truly are a great nation... full of dreams, full of promise, and full of potential.

You know, I found myself in an odd conversation the other day with a fellow patron as we stood in line to pay for our lunches. We were talking about the American flag, and she mentioned that she thought it was odd and inappropriate that we “force” our children to pledge allegiance to this “archaic symbol” every day in school. Well, I don’t see it that way at all. And I explained to this lady that I see it as a rare blessing, that we have the opportunity to teach our children an act of patriotism and instill within them a love, respect, and appreciation for our country. I see it as an honor and a privilege to salute Old Glory... and to remember all the unbelievable sacrifices countless men and women have made to keep that banner flying high. I see it as a small token of thanks and devotion that you and I can give to recognize the freedoms we have been afforded... freedoms that required the shedding of blood so future generations can continue to enjoy them.

It really is all about freedom.

And on the eve of our nation’s 239th birthday, I am so proud to say that one of the freedoms I most love and support—and I know you value, as well—is triumphing: The Second Amendment, our right to defend liberty from tyranny.

In fact, late last year, the research giant Gallup reported that the percentage of Americans who believe having a gun in the house makes it a safer place has nearly doubled since 2000. That’s right: A whopping 63 percent of Americans said that guns make our homes safer! And there’s even more good news: Rasmussen Reports’ national telephone survey found that the vast majority of Americans prefer to live in neighborhoods with responsibly armed people.

Despite the bleeding hearts, the naysayers, the 2A haters, and the gun grabbers (and all their efforts to bring us down), the right to bear arms is alive and well.

I, for one, think that’s something to celebrate—for our nation, for our industry, for our families, and for ourselves.

So from my family and the entire USCCA team, we hope you have a safe, memorable, and meaningful Fourth of July. Or, should I just say: Happy Freedom Day!

I used to be “that girl.” When I first tagged along with my husband to the indoor shooting range, he did everything for me. He set up the gun on the table. He got out the firearm and loaded the magazines. He even racked the slide—every time. I complained…
Disorder In The Court?

Some recent decisions handed down by the United States Supreme Court should serve as an ominous warning to those of us who own and/or carry firearms. While the court’s latest rulings dealt with issues that seem completely unrelated to gun ownership…

I’ve been thinking about something my boss wrote recently. In a recent column, USCCA founder and CEO Tim Schmidt referenced the church shootings in South Carolina and stated that it’s difficult to dwell on the idea that there is no truly safe place…
