Why Support I-1366?

Senator Pam Roach explains her support for Initiative 1366

It's really gratifying to see how much support Initiative 1366 is attracting.  Besides the 339,000 voters who signed our petitions, the Taxpayer Protection Act has been endorsed by the State Republican Party, Farm Bureau, Libertarian Party, and others.

But most exciting of all is the stunning number of legislative leaders who are speaking out in favor of Initiative 1366:

"Since the voters first approved the 2/3 requirement with Initiative 601 in 1993, the Legislature has had 22 consecutive legislative sessions to refer to the ballot a constitutional amendment requiring a 2/3 vote of the Legislature or a majority vote of the people for any tax increase.  They could have let the voters vote on it in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.  But they didn't.  And because Olympia ignored the voters, the Legislature now faces Initiative 1366.  It shouldn't have come to this.  Olympia should have acted sooner on the voters' clear mandate.  This is, by far, Eyman's most thoughtful initiative.  It resurrects the most popular taxpayer protection policy in state history.  In the 31st district, 73% of voters overwhelmingly support the 2/3 requirement.  I agree with them.  Voters must pass Initiative 1366 in November or else there will never be a 2/3-for-taxes constitutional amendment.  I support Initiative 1366 so the people can permanently protect themselves."  Senator Pam Roach (R-Auburn).

        Isn't she fantastic?

Initiative 1366 is called the "Taxpayer Protection Act" for a reason:  it's all about protecting the taxpayers from Olympia's insatiable tax appetite.  Whenever people ask why our initiative is necessary, all we say is "Did you see how tax-obsessed Olympia was this year?"
