Should Christians VOTE?
One man's point of view (speaking to Calvary Chapel in Olympia, WA)
regarding Christians being active in politics. Recorded back in 2009
but still appropriate today. You probably will not agree with every
point that he makes but it would not be good to totally ignore the
subject and think you have considered the thing properly. http://vimeo.com/45806400

Here is an article from the News Tribune on the local race in my Legislative District and my comment on it.

WA State 29th Leg. Dist.
Ben Lawver Age: 34.
Total raised/spent*: $45,381 (including $900 in personal funds)/ $30,544.
David Sawyer Age: 29.
Total raised/spent*: $34,864.25/ $22,819.15.
Terry Harder Age: 61.
Total raised/spent*: $151/$147.
I am going with the frugal poor old guy. Seriously, I spent two hours talking to Terry today (7-28-12) at the "Celebrate Spanaway" event. He is the kind of new blood that is needed in Olympia. He is not bought and paid for by Big Labor or the elite of the party of the status quo. Our Reps in Oly recently ignored the will of the people and crossed the line by passing a bill to change God's definition of marriage. Both Ben and David have taken a position against R-74. Terry is glad that our State lets the voters tell the politicians that we REJECT what they have tried to do. Me too. Vote REJECT on R-74. I told Terry I will volunteer to doorbell or wave signs for him and he has my vote. He has a solid connection small businesses and understands what they need to succeed. ALL the economy pundits say it is small businesses that will get us out of the present financial doldrums if government will get out of the way and let them do what they do. It is time to put people in office that are for limited government, fiscal responsibility, free trade and traditional family values. I asked Terry if he would be out campaigning tomorrow and he said, "No, I plan to spend Sunday in church and with my family." I like him.

Write In Sharon Hanek
Sharon Hanek is known as "Research Mom" and she deserves your vote. There was only one candidate running for WA State Treasurer and several friends of Sharon, including myself, signed a petition for her to be a "Write In" candidate. Sharon is a friend. She is keenly aware of the important issues in our State. She is also the present Treasurer of the Pierce County Republican Party. She is NOT endorsed by the County or State GOP but I served with her on the Pierce County Platform Committee and can tell you from my personal observations that she is worthy of the vote of every voter in the State who wants to see Washington get it's Fiscal House back in order again. http://researchmom.homestead.com/Legislation.html

Silent Sermon
Where there are no blossoms there will be no fruit.
Attendance was down again a little last Lord's Day but there was a good Spirit there and all in all, it was a great day. It was good to be in the house of the Lord. Please visit our church website at TLBC and see and hear the latest news.
THE SILENT SERMON
A member of a certain church, who previously had
been attending services regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, the pastor decided to visit him.
It was a chilly evening.. The pastor found the
man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for his pastor's visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a comfortable chair near the fireplace and waited.
The pastor made himself at home but said nothing.
In the grave silence, he contemplated the dance of the flames around the burning logs. After some minutes, the pastor took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone then he sat back in his chair, still silent.
The host watched all this in quiet contemplation. As the one lone ember's flame flickered and diminished, there was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and dead.
Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. The pastor glanced at his watch and realized it was time to leave. He slowly stood up, picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to glow, once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it.
As the pastor reached the door to leave, his host said with a tear running down his cheek, 'Thank you so much for your visit and especially for the firey sermon. I will be back in church next Sunday'.
We live in a world today, which tries to say too much with too little. Consequently, few listen. Sometimes the best sermons are the ones left unspoken. Such as:
The Lord is my Shepherd ---- that's a
Relationship!
I shall not want ---- that's Supply!
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures
----that's Rest!
He leadeth me beside the still waters
---that's Refreshment!
He restoreth my soul ---- that's Healing!
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
----that's Guidance!
For His name sake ---- that's Purpose!
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death----that's Testing!
I will fear no evil ---- that's Protection!
For Thou art with me ---- that's Faithfulness!
Thy rod and Thy staff comfort me
----that'sDiscipline!
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence
of mine enemies---- that's Hope!
Thou annointest my head with oil ----
that'sConsecration!
My cup runneth over ---- that's Abundance!
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the
days of my life---- that's Blessing!
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
----that'sSecurity!
Forever ---- that's Eternity!
Face it, God is crazy about me!

Happy Friday the 13th.
We all know now ObamaCare will
result in the biggest tax increase in US history.
74% of that tax increase will fall
on those making $120,000 or less per year.
Lets just look at Obama’s Medicaid
mandate and how it will affect Washingtonians.
Background (Sourced from Government and Washington Policy
Center data)
Washington State impact
- Washington State will pay 50% of Medicaid costs
- Potential of 400,000 new Medicaid participants
- Potential budget increase for Washington State $1.8 billion due to new Medicaid participants
- Additionally Washington State has already taken a federal grant of $137 million to start ObamaCare, employing 200 new state employees
- Washington State is on the hook for paying for all these new 200 administrators which will represent an additional state cost of $20 million annually
Bottom
line: If Obama-Care prevails, Washingtonians are looking at
radically more state spending which will result in less funding for education and
all other services; more pressure to increase taxes and less access for those
who truly need help for medical care.
Please keep your fellow voters informed. We all need to ask ourselves how we can help and then make it happen!

New Study
You and I constantly hear pro-abortion extremists scream that the supposed mental health of the mother is somehow more important than the life of an unborn baby. Psychological mumbo jumbo vs. death? Frankly, this shows there must be something wrong with their minds. But now there's a new study that shows even this rationalization excusing abortion-on-demand is false. The fact is, not only do parental intervention laws save the lives of unborn babies and give parents back the right to stop an abortion from being performed on their minor daughter. . . . . . but they also reduce suicide rates among teen girls by as much as 11 to 21 percent. These findings, released in the spring journal of Economic Inquiry demonstrate the fact that abortion decisions by pregnant teens lead to feelings of overwhelming guilt. If you have time to take a look at this study on the dual life-saving results of parental intervention laws, I encourage you to click on this link to read the article. But the bottom line is that hundreds of thousands of unborn babies die as a result of wrongheaded decisions, and one out of five abortions is performed on a minor. And it's evident that a parent's intervention to stop an abortion can save not only the unborn baby's life but in many cases save two lives -- both the unborn baby and the teenage mother. You Judge the Judges
WA State Supreme Court Candidates face
off in debate.
By Larry Killion, Citizen Journalist
The Freedom Foundation’s “Theodore
L Stiles Center
for Liberty” presented a Forum for
the Candidates running for the Washington State Supreme Court at 7PM, July
10th 2012. A
co-sponsor for the event was Washington Coalition for Open Government in
cooperation with TVW and Tacoma News Tribune.
The setting was the beautiful grounds of Lakewold
Gardens at 12317 Gravely Lake Drive
in Lakewood.
Michael J. Reitz introduced the four candidates and gave
them a few minutes for an opening statement and words of introduction.
Richard Sanders
began by stating his qualifications and experience as a former Supreme Court
Justice endorsed by the retiring Justice from this opening. Sanders heard over 600 cases from the
Washington Supreme Court Bench. He has
many conservative endorsements. He emphasized
the need for the court to defend the rights of the individual citizen rather
than putting the government powers in priority. He pointed out the partisan
positions of career politicians trying to break into the judicial branch of
government now.
Sheryl McCloud
spoke of her 25 years of experience arguing for constitutional rights and
promised to maintain a track record favoring the constitution. She defended the 2nd amendment and
spoke against the death penalty. She is
endorsed by King County
and Pierce County Bar Associations, Women’s Rights Groups and the NAACP. She stressed her skills at assessing
strengths and weaknesses.
John Ladenburg
called himself an outsider. He insisted
that the judicial system needs to be more open and he wanted to change it from
a “good old boys” club to something more transparent. He is endorsed by the Tacoma News Tribune. He
spoke of his 12 years of experience as a defense lawyer and 14 years of
experience as a prosecuting attorney. He felt that he has the broadest range of
experience of all the candidates having served as a criminal defense lawyer, Pierce
County prosecutor, Tacoma City
Councilman, and Pierce County Executive.
Bruce Hilyer told
of his 12 years of experience on the King County Superior Court as a judge with
the support from 145 other judges on the bench.
He claimed the highest ratings as a non-partisan candidate endorsed by labor
unions, teachers and police. He insisted
that he had no ax to grind and that he desired to see the judicial branch of
our government become more modern and efficient in it’s administrative
activities.
Here are some of the questions asked of the candidates and
their answers.
What case has the
court ruled on that you would have ruled differently?
Sanders- The people voted down the Mariners Tax but the
court passed it anyway. I would not have
done that.
McCloud- The court ruled against public access to
trials. I would not have.
Ladenburg- The court’s ruling on the Anderson Case caused
hundreds of cases to be retried. I would
not have done that.
Hilyer- said he agreed with what Ladenburg said about the
Anderson Case.
How would you make
decisions on cases being heard?
McCloud- I would use the constitution for guidance.
Ladenburg- I would take into consideration the possible
unintended consequences of it.
Hilyer- I would pay attention to the specific details and
not decide with a broad brush.
Sanders- I agree with McCloud that the rule of law is the
important thing.
Name the US Supreme Court Justice that you admire the
most.
Ladenburg- Kennedy.
Hilyer- I go way back to John Marshall.
Sander- George Southerland in the 30’s.
McCloud- I’m surprised John chose Kennedy but he is my
choice too because he is a constitutionalist.
Discuss campaign
contributions and the legislator ability to use them.
Hilyer- We shouldn’t turn Washington
into something like Texas where
big money runs everything.
Sanders-The State constitution gives this right and we
should go by it or change the law.
McCloud- This is an evolving issue. The US Supreme court has not overturned it or
justified it. It is a 1st
amendment issue.
Ladenburg- We must be careful about Barons buying up
everything in politics.
31A gives more access
to court records. Do your favor or not?
Sanders- We can lawfully seal records but it should be the
exception not the rule.
McCloud- There must be a balance between an open court and
the right to privacy.
Ladenburg- We need more openness.
Hilyer- 31A is OK as it is.
Discuss the
Initiative and Referendum rights of the people.
McCloud- The Constitution gives this right. I’m for it.
Ladenburg- The court should give their advice before the
process can start.
Hilyer- No opinion, but agree somewhat with Ladenburg.
Sanders- Courts are to decide issues on individual rights
and defend them. There should be no
wasting time giving advice on issues that may not make it to the ballot.
Should cameras be in
the courtroom?
Ladenburg- Yes.
Hilyer- Yes.
Sanders- Yes.
McCloud- Yes.
What do you want to
accomplish by your term on the bench?
Hilyer- Bring the system up to date with computerized
paperless technology and replace the 30 year old paper system.
Sanders- Be impartial and defend the constitutional rights
of the individual against government abuse.
McCloud- I want people to be proud of their court decisions
whether they agree or disagree with them.
Ladenburg- Open up the court and bring it back to the
people.
What is the most
important judicial issue today?
Sanders- The court must be unbiased and impartial. Case law should not trump the constitution.
McCloud- The court must be independent and decide on the
rule of law not popular opinion.
Ladenburg- The court needs to get more organized.
Hilyer- Judicial independence, separation of powers and
individual rights should not trump the “common good.”

Norm admits it....
Congressman Dicks concedes Obamacare hurts Democrats
July 10, 2012 at 1:30 am in Accountability, GAN, Norman D. Dicks, ObamaCare, Patty Murray by Larry · Tags: ACA, Norm Dicks, obamacare, Patty Murray, SCOTUS, Supreme Court No Comments
“It did hurt us, there’s no doubt about it. The climate out there was really ugly because of it.”
Representative Norm Dicks (D-WA) who is retiring at the end of this Congress admits the damage Obamacare has done to his party’s image. However, other Washington state representatives continue to say Obama’s tax increase does more good than harm.
Washington State Senator Patty Murray said in her recent Newsletter, “Last week, the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act. This is a victory for the health care security and stability of Washington families. The ruling means that families and small business owners will continue to benefit from better access, more choices, and a health care system that no longer works only for those who can afford it.”
The American Healthcare Education Coalition disagrees, saying, “The SCOTUS decision was no victory for freedom or democracy.” In an article for the Blog Prescription for Disaster, Chris Jaarda said, “The bottom line is that government’s power to coerce each of us has not been curbed at all. The proof: the individual mandate still stands. Robert’s opinion imposes no outward limit on Congress’ power of coercion or compulsion through taxation (even though the 16th Amendment contains such limits). Congress doesn’t even have to call future taxes, “taxes” when compelling action – the Court will uphold them anyway. Congress can now tax us if we don’t do what they say…. The sum of Roberts’ decision is this, ‘People are free to do what they want but Congress is free to tax the exercise of that free will.’ In effect, Roberts has used the Constitution to create a “Freedom Tax”. That is not something to celebrate – it is a blow to the liberty of every American.”
Doug Cloud, GOP Candidate for Washington State’s 6th Congressional District, encourages voters to stay engaged after the SCOTUS ruling. “Today the Supreme Court decided that Obama-care as a whole is constitutional. This is a dangerous precedent that allows the federal government to compel human behavior without limit. By stating that it is unconstitutional for the government to compel a person to an action but it is constitutional to tax that person if they do not perform that action; the Supreme Court has demonstrated a deep contempt for the concept of individual liberty. Today’s ruling continues the unabated assault by the federal government on the individual, and the control of the way that they expend their time and energy. While I am disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision, we must continue to keep moving forward because the fight for individual freedom will never be over… Obama-care is an unpopular piece of legislation, and it is now up to Congress to repeal it. There is no doubt that health care reform is desperately needed in America, but those changes cannot come through heavy taxation and bureaucracy. Consumers are better off when they have more choices and fewer mandates. The Supreme Court had its moment. It is the job of the American public now to elect principled representatives who will dedicate themselves to repealing this bill.”
From the Tea Party perspective, Tea Party Patriots National Support Team member Shelby Blakely said, “The Supreme Court ruled against the American people and failed to perform their most basic function, which is to measure legislation against the yardstick of the Constitution. Members of over 3000 Tea Party groups across the country will continue working to repeal Obama’s trillion dollar tax increase and hold responsible members of congress who voted for it.”
