Victory! Supreme Court takes case for Jesus prayers
Larry Killion
Today the U.S. Supreme Court announced a miracle. They will hear our plea, and answer our prayers, by taking the case Town of Greece vs. Galloway (formerly Galloway vs. Town of Greece), which will be the most important free speech case in a generation, when arguments begin in October. After declining 3 similar cases in recent years, they finally agreed to hear a GREAT case to rule if it's OK to pray publicly "in Jesus' name."
In 2007 I wrote and faxed the hero Supervisor John Auberger of Greece, New York, who heard our plea and defended citizens and pastors free speech rights to pray "in Jesus' name," before council meetings. When atheist complainers threatened to sue, I advised him to hire Christian lawyers from ADF who would defend him pro-bono in court. He did exactly that. Those lawyers I recommended to him will now argue at the Supreme Court.
In 2008, the atheist complainers sued Greece and Auberger. Two citizens with Americans United for Separation of Church and State complained they were offended that some prayers ended "in Jesus' name" or they heard Christian prayers spoken by Christians. (They ignored the fact Jewish and Ba'hai people also prayed freely, taking turns, and atheists declined to say their own speech when invited).
The atheist sued, and lost in 2010. But they appealed and the atheists won in 2012. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ruled it's illegal for citizens to pray "in Jesus' name" because by allowing free speech, the town was favoring freedom, rather than censoring the illegal word "Jesus" which is banned by the Constitution as illegal speech. (Say what?)
Outraged but not surprised, we prayed for a miracle, and God answered our prayers today. Watch our recent prayer on video, which God heard today, here-->
Considering only a handful of cases are taken by SCOTUS each year, this is truly a miracle! Yet now we must pray in earnest, that they get the decision right.
