Brazil Market Falling Wedge

Market Insight:
Brazil's Falling Wedge

From the desk of Chris Hunter, Editor-in-Chief, Bonner & Partners

The Brazilian stock market has been a miserable place for investors lately. While US stocks have been off to the races, the iShares MSCI Brazil Index ETF (NYSE:EWZ) has been in a clear downtrend since mid-2001.

As you can see on the chart, apart from prices trading in a downtrend... price movement has bounced around between two trend lines (in blue).

This is what technical analysts call a falling wedge pattern... and it's a classic trend reversal pattern.

Watch for the price to break through the upper resistance line on heavier volume and successively close above that level.

That could signal the reversal of the downtrend.

Until then, steer clear.
