RE:  YESTERDAY'S SEATTLE TIMES: "Inslee's been obsessed with raising taxes since he was inaugurated,” said Schoesler, the Republican leader in the Majority Coalition Caucus. http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2024666021_chehalisfloodingxml.html

Obsessed: an idea or thought that continually preoccupies or intrudes on a person's mind. "he was in the grip of an obsession he was powerless to resist." synonyms: fixation, mania, compulsion, preoccupation, infatuation, addiction, fetish, craze.

Rarely do elected leaders say the emperor has not clothes.  Rarer still does the media print it. So that makes today's Seattle Times story such a public service.

It is absolutely true that Inslee's "been obsessed with raising taxes since he was inaugurated."

Think back.  Candidate Inslee was emphatic: no new taxes.

"No, I am not going to propose taxes. I do not believe they're right for the State of Washington." SEATTLE TIMES: At the news conference, Inslee made a clear promise to veto tax increases. "I would veto anything that heads the wrong direction and the wrong direction is new taxes in the state of Washington," Inslee said. SEATTLE TIMES: In an interview after the debate Inslee said he would veto tax increases if they were passed by the Democratically controlled Legislature.

The day after becoming Governor, Jay Inslee held his first press conference and promptly broke his veto-taxes pledge. Extension of taxes not an increase, Inslee insists. "These do not raise taxes. They do not raise taxes on people over the existing level that, in fact, are being paid today. And since they do not increase taxes they are not a tax increase. That is a numerical, mathematical conclusion that Huskies and Cougars, no matter where you went to school, can agree with on a mathematical basis.”

The verbal gymnastics and lawyeristic weaseling were impressive.

In the weeks and months and years that have followed, there's not been a single bill proposing higher taxes that has ever been opposed by the Governor. Not one. With Inslee, the sky's the limit.

When it comes to raising taxes, Inslee ran to the right of Rob McKenna. But while serving as Governor, Inslee is pushing for tax increases as aggressively as Mike Lowry ever did.

Voters can't count on bait-and-switch politicians like Inslee to protect them from higher taxes. The people need your help to fight back.

We're in for a knock-down, drag-out fight in the Legislature next year over tax hikes.

We're gearing up for the guarantuan battle next year.  Will you help us fight back?
