income-tax-head-fake.
It's a tried and true strategy in Olympia: Democrats instruct one of their Seattle legislators (from a safe seat) to propose a bill imposing a state income tax. The media and the public hyperventilate. It sucks out all the oxygen and the bill dies. But it's all fabricated and staged and choreographed. It's meant to draw attention away from the real tax hikes that they plan on imposing on the poor and middle class.
Democrats talk about "taxing the rich" and "closing corporate tax loopholes" but it's not real. They know that powerful lobbyists will kill those efforts. And they don't care. Because all they want is money ... lots of it ... and they're perfectly satisfied targeting the poor and middle class ... because it's tougher for us to fight back.
Perfect example was in 2010. Back then, the Democrats controlled the House, the Senate, and the Governor's office. They immediately suspended the 2/3. So from that point on, they could've closed any corporate tax loophole they wanted. They could've imposed all sorts of taxes on the rich. But they didn't. Instead, they did their usual income-tax-head-fake and then imposed taxes on you and me (taxes on soda pop, bottled water, candy, tobacco, Joe Six Pack beer, etc.).
In 2015, it's lookin' like deja vu all over again: lots of talk about closing corporate tax loopholes and taxing the rich. But here's the end game:
COLUMBIAN, June 9, 2014: "State Rep. Jim Moeller is already predicting the sticking point that will keep lawmakers in Olympia next June: raising the sales tax by one penny or by two. “Every cent the sales tax goes up, it raises about $1 billion,” said Moeller, a Democrat from Vancouver. In a wide-ranging interview with The Columbian’s editorial board Monday, the Democratic lawmaker from Vancouver said the tax increase is the answer to the state Supreme Court’s mandate to adequately fund the state’s public schools, at an estimated extra cost of $3 billion. If re-elected, Moeller said, he envisions coming back to the people of the 49th Legislative District after the session ends and explaining, “This is what we needed to do."
The sales tax is already roughly 10% (combined state and local), making it one of the highest sales taxes in the nation. And increasing it to 11% or 12% will disproportionately hurt the poor and middle class whose wages are flat and continue to struggle. But it's where the big money is ("Every cent raises a billion dollars"). It's the Democrats' Alpha and Omega.
Don't be distracted by what Democrats say; watch what they do.
The 2015 session in Olympia is gonna be a knock-down, drag-out fight. They're gonna try to pull every trick in the book. But we're ready for 'em. We know their bait-and-switch games.
We're gearing up for next year -- we need your help to succeed.

P.S. There are thousands of politicians, bureaucrats, lobbyists, and special interest groups working each and every day to raise your taxes. Shouldn't there be at least one person, one team, one organization that fights to lower your taxes? Please help us so we can continue our successful efforts on behalf of taxpayers.
