Religious
freedom is definitely the hot topic this week with Indiana passing
legislation and the firestorm that has come as a result.
Now, in Arkansas, it's unclear whether Gov. Asa Hutchinson will sign
the recently passed Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).
HB 1228 would protect people of
faith from violating their deeply held beliefs. A federal RFRA has been
in place since 1993, signed then-President Bill Clinton. Twenty other
states have already passed similar legislation and 11 others have court
rulings protecting religious freedom in their states.
The residents of Arkansas
deserve no less. And the outcome of these public battles could impact
efforts to protect religious freedom in every state -- including yours.
Please call the Governor's
office today (501-682-2345) or send him a message on Twitter
(@asahutchinson) asking him to sign the bill as is and not to amend it.
Or, you can fill out the contact form online through the governor's website. Because of high call volume, you may get a busy signal when you contact Hutchinson's office. Don't give up.
Together, we can protect our religious freedoms!
